Love Entwined, still in progress

Beside "Garden of Forgetfulness", I'm also still working on my Love Entwined.
Having worked so long on it, I started it when it was first published by Esther, I keep changing bits and pieces, adapting it to my current taste and level of skill.

This summer I worked on it on our terrace. I replaced the 'Dutch clogs' with hearts, which I liked more and which is fitting for a project which has Love in its name.

Esther herself expressed her surprise and frustation that her own Love Entwined quilts (yes she is making two of them) still aren't finished, whilst there are finished Love Entwined quilts appearing more often. I understand that frustration, and feel the same.

One of the things I changed is the yellow borders. They became ochre/gold. I started doubting that choice when I picked it up again, but I have to stop changing things or it will never be finished.

I'm working on the centre, the bouquets in broderie perse, but I also have a large part of the borders nearly finished.

Hele kleine bloemetjes.

On the first series of borders, I'm doing the small bouquets in broderie perse too. They are very small flowers.

There is a lot of repetition in this project, which is the reason why I have to do something else now and then.

That is my excuse for being distracted now and then ;)

Garden of Forgetfulness revisited

Just before we moved home at the beginning of October 2015, Mum was gravely ill and we took turns to stay with her day and night. It was at that time that I started "Garden of Forgetfulness" bij Willyne Hammerstein, to have a project that I could easily do at her bedside. Mam enjoyed seeing the rosettes come to life.

Since then this project was more or less on halt, Mum is no longer with us, and I picked it up again last week. It is just too much fun to do. In fact this was the preparation for a much bigger and more complicated design by Willyne Hammerstein: La Passacaglia. To see whether I enjoy doing EPP and also whether my sore hands would be able to manage.

I use an acrylic template to make fussy cutting easier

Looking for a fabric that will go with the blue stripe/floral

En er is weer een rozet af.

And another rosette is done.

I don't like to use glue, but I thread-baste the fabric around the templates. That way I can keep using them and they easily come out. The handy clasps are great for EPP.

Progress until this morning, with the planned border fabric, which I'm also using for the diamonds.

Autumn has really arrived at our home, even though the temperatures are still quite high for the time of year. The birches in front of our home have taken on their golden colour.

The ginkgo tree has taken on the colour it has just before it drops all its leaves in one go.

The hydrangea is beautiful too, in its autumn colours

I'm ending this blog post with a picture I took on my way home last Friday.

I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post. It will be followed soon by another one about progress on my Love Entwined, which I'm also still working on.

Dear Jane: drie nieuwe blokjes / three new blocks

Thanks for your lovely reactions. It is still appreciated to keep a blog, so I will do my best to keep it up. I like it myself too, as a stitching diary.

I'm still working on Dear Jane, amongst other projects. The past weeks I completed three blocks. They are very handy to make in the garden.

Allereerst maakte ik A4 af:
First I finished A4:
A4: "Courtney's Stethoscope"

Daarna wasF2 aan de beurt:
Next came F2:
F2: "Kaleidoscope"

Which was quite a job because of the oblong triangles which have to be attached the right way around. The burgundy fabric with stars was sent to me by Helen Marasco from Australia. Thanks Helen!

en als laatste een paar dagen geleden E5:
and the last one, E5, which I completed a few days ago:

E5: "Rising Sun"

There are now 55 blocks and one border point.

I'm also working on "Love Always" by Esther Aliu. The centre circle and two blocks with bases are finished and I'm working on the third vase block. The fourth is this month's block.

I also started a new project (I was so intending not to start anything new) but I'm keeping that to myself for now.

Tot de volgende keer.
Till next time.

Catching up

And again it has been a very long time since I updated my blog. Facebook is just so much faster for sharing things, but I do like my blog as a reference to go back to, and also for sharing my passions applique, photography, painting, crochet, etc.

So I will post a summary of each month since I last posted.

May 2017 / Mei 2017

Mid April we had adopted a female black cat called Beertje (little bear in Dutch) from a shelter in Roosendaal. About a week later we realised she was pregnant.

We noemden haar Beertje.

We had an X-ray taken of her tummy to determine how many kittens there would be, for the birth and for future adoptive parents. We had decided we would keep two of them ourselves. We already had three cats including Beertje.

Beertje was by then heavily pregnant.
It turned out to be just one kitten. You can see it in the x-ray between Beertje's 'knees' and breast bone.

It was born a few days later on May 23rd.

She turned out to be a female and we called her Belle

She was an adorable kitten, and is now almost 1 year old.

I had some issues with crochet and Belle :)

But I did finish my Mandala Madness at the beginning of August.
Here is a photo up until part 17 (MM has 18 parts) with Beertje. I don't appear to have a photo of it completed.

It was a challenge but so much fun to do whilst I had to rest my leg, so I started a second one for my SIL.

She chose the colours. I have more done than this but need to take a new photograph.

Once I could sit on a dining chair again, I worked on my applique and patchwork projects.

Antique Wedding Sampler with some help from Belle

In August I lost my Mum. She had not been well and we nursed her at home together with Dad and Home Care and were able to grant her wish to pass away at home.

Mum was also a quilter and I miss her so much when working on my projects (and also at other times). Now that spring has arrived, I miss her even more because Mum loved our new home and garden so much.

In Autumn we had a huge walnut harvest, much bigger than previous years.

It takes me at least 2 hours each day to collect the walnuts. The harvest starts mid-September and lasts till the first week of November.

2018

In January I started a new project by Esther Aliu, one of the projects from her 2018BOM called Love Always. It is a companian piece for Love Entwined.

I had fallen in love with a line of batiks, which I'm using for this project. Instead of doing Esther's flowers, I worked with broderie perse flowers.

I have nearly completed the third vase block.

Also in January we lost two of our big pine trees in a big storm on January 18th. One tree fell in the road and the other nearly fell on our house, but only brushed past our roof, and landed just outside our front door, on the side of the house. It is difficult to show how big this tree was.

View from the garden / vanaf de tuin

The trunk cut in 25 layers. I counted 42 rings / de stam in 25 dikke plakken gezaagd. Ik telde 42 jaarringen.

In January and February it got very cold and I was able to do some more frosty bubble photography.
One day and night the wind chill went down to minus 24C.

This has taken me to spring of this year, from where I will pick up again hopefully in regular instalments.

Sorry for the very long post.

Sorry voor dit erg lange blogverhaal
