Snowbound & Postcard Cuties

Sorry for the horrible picture. I now understand why Michele always says it is so hard to take a good picture of a quilt top. This is the middle bit of Snowbound, the free 2010 BOM by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs.

The 2011 BOM is about to start (tomorrow!) and I was hoping to complete my top before then.
But life got in the way and I did complete the middle bit, but not the borders. And above you will find proof ;o)

The theme for the new BOM "Henrietta Whiskers" was announced this evening. Anne Sutton is leaving us guessing till tomorrow. But of course lots of thoughts are crossing my mind: rabbit? squirrel? cat? What else has whiskers?

Last week I also completed block 2 of Postcard Cuties, also by Bunny Hill Designs. These blocks are quite small. This whole block is about the size of an A4 sheet of paper. Block 1 was even smaller. Great fun to stitch! I'm still waiting for the embellishments to arrive from across the pond.
Today I received word that the first block of The Night Before Christmas (yes, also by Bunny Hill Designs) was posted out to me. I cannot wait to see the beautiful fabrics and the cute pattern.
Thanks for all your good wishes for this new year 2011!

Trying So Hard To Be Good

Our furry boy is trying so hard to be good and not touch the pompom on this snowman's hat.

I'm trying to get Snowbound assembled before Christmas (yeah, well I can only try...) and Kruimel loves it!

Can you see the cheeky look on his face? If you notice a nasty scratch on his nose when you click on this picture, it wasn't a stitching accident, honestly! He was somewhat in the wars with his 'friend' Elvis, who doesn't appreciate his cuddly nature. Elvis was dumped and found in the street when he was only a tiny kitten and he never really got to grips with normal social cat behaviour. Kruimel having been born in the safe and good care of his breeders and his mum, is a very social cat who is very affectionate towards Elvis and Luna.

Not much else I can show you, because the other project I'm working on is a Christmas present for my Mum and the project I worked on last week was a present for my friend. It is now winging its way over the big pond. I promise I will show them all once the recipients have seen them. I did take pictures!

In the mean time we're racking our brains to come up with the perfect solution for some Christmas decorations that Kruimel cannot break or eat. Last year when we put our Christmas tree up, he straight away started to chew the lights and there were tiny pieces of glass everywhere (probably also in his gut) so we took the Christmas tree down asap.

You can imagine that I just had to smile when I read that his little niece Poeka (Kruimel's sister Kira's daughter) proceeded to do the exact same thing when her new mum and dad tried to get the Christmas tree up. Needless to say, they have had to take it down again. Honestly, that picture could have been our furry boy exactly one year ago. Here is his picture:

We never got past this stage of the tree (no baubles or other decorations and certainly no garlands!)

He just seemed to have claimed the tree as his property, becoming the Tree Master for several days. The lovely tree skirt was made by my Mum, by the way.

And our little girl was our biggest present of the year 2009, and here she is posing with last year's presents.

Snow Angel

Now that Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs has published part 12 of Snowbound, I can finally show you my Snow Angel, which I finished on 8th November:

This is the final block in the series and I'm in the process of trying to assemble all the blocks. I will not be using the layout which came with this design, but I'm doing something similar to A Tisket A Tasket, a previous free design by Anne Sutton.

Lots of News

It has been a while since I updated my blog.

This afternoon I paid a visit to my favourite LNS and bought the materials for Scandinavian Christmas by Lynette Anderson.

The pattern has been screaming at me ever since it arrived before our holidays and now I just had to go out and buy the essentials :o)

This is what the quilt will approximately look like when it is done.

Image copyright Lynette Anderson.

Today I completed block 11 of Snowbound by Bunny Hill Designs. Anne Sutton designed another very cute block for this month. Only one more to go and then all the piecing and finishing still needs to be done. But at least I'm caught up with all the blocks.

And Kruimel aka the Ort Master is convinced he still fits in the basket of the climbing pole. It is a very tight squeeze, as you can see!

We are in the process of constructing a big cat enclosure in our garden, so they can go out for some fresh air and a bit of scratching and climbing, and still be safe. Once there is more to see and the garden is not such a huge mess anymore, I will share pictures.
Apart from Snowbound, I worked on My Garden BOM block 4 (also by Lynette Anderson) which is very nearly done (I will share a picture soon) and also lots of work was done on Le Jardin by Bunny Hill Designs. I need to find a way of displaying what I have completed so far, to see what progress I have made to date. That quilt is huge! More about that soon.

Snowbound: Another One

Another one done! This is the snowlady and lamb for October for the Snowbound BOM. Another very cute block and so much fun to stitch. So for the moment I'm caught up, except for the piecing of the whole quilt, which will be different from the design.
This is a freebie by Bunny Hill Designs. I'm SO hoping that Anne Sutton will do another one next year.
Thanks for your lovely comments.

Catching Up

Thanks for all your lovely comments on my Quilt Shoppe.

Today I worked on Snowbound, the little fellow in his cart for August:

That still leaves the snowlady and sheep for October to do, and all the piecing up to now. It will be different from what Anne Sutton has come up with. More later.

When we were in Ibiza I visited a small shop called a merceria (haberdashery shop) and found these cute buttons, which will be added to my stash.

Snowbound # 9 & More Post From Australia

Here is my snowman for September (Snowbound, Bunny Hill Designs). I'm still working on the one for August in his little cart. He has still got some work to be done on him.
As I have decided to go with a different layout for this project, I will be making some small changes to previous blocks, to make the fabric which I have chosen for the sashings (see pinkish birdie) and for the little squares in between the sashings (see hat and bird's wing) work better. Not a lot of work to do and it will make the whole layout pull together a lot more (here's hoping!)
o-o-o
Today, postie brought me a little package from Australia with My Garden BOM (Lynette Anderson) blocks #2 and #3, and I got word that block #4 is also in the post already. That's the nice thing about starting a BOM late! You get lots of blocks to play with within a short space of time.

In the background there is another fabric from the Evening Mist range from Moda Fabrics. Ineke and I just couldn't refrain ourselves from ordering some more fabrics from this beautiful range, so we have lots to choose from.

Remember I told you a while back about the family of collared doves living in our garden? I'm happy to report that another baby dove has shown up. I haven't yet had a chance to take his/her picture, as he/she is being pestered by a huge adult wood pigeon that has also taken up residency in our garden.
Thanks for your lovely comments. They really are very inspiring.

Yesterday I forgot to mention that I had received a lovely present from Michele, containing these gorgeous goodies for my Snowbound project. Aren't they beautiful?!
Thank you, Michele!

Snowbound block # 3 completed

The pattern for this block was published this morning. Anne outdid herself again with a very surprising block. So much fun to work on!
The next block will be published April 5th. I cannot wait to see it.
