"Sarah Morrell", at last

For a very long time, I have been wanting to start the "Sarah Morrell" pattern by Di Ford. It was actually still packed away, because we are still in the process of renovating our countryside home, that we bought three years ago. Thankfully I had marked the boxes with the most important items in my stash boxes, so "Sarah" was easy to find ;)

Having bought the pattern from Australia 1st of May 2011, it was about time I started it. It is the hand-written pattern, which makes it even more special for me.

I first saw Di Ford's quilts at Veldhoven in May 2013, among which her beautiful rendition of the Sarah Morrell quilt. And I had a brief encounter with this very kind designer. She took her time to answer my question about how she chooses her colours.

Before I left for Scotland I had a few bits and pieces prepared and kept safe in a jiffy bag for each block, but only properly started when I came back. I was too busy preparing for going away.

Sarah is a very interesting project to work on, because it combines applique and broderie perse with piecing. And all my special fabrics and toiles can be used. It is so much fun to dig out all the special fabrics that I have cherished but not yet used so far.

The ones I kept specially for "Sarah" I had tucked in with the pattern.

This is block 8 that I finished last night. Sorry for the creases, it needs ironing.
I had all but one of the squares cut and prepared in a jiffy bag, waiting for that perfect centre square, which arrived yesterday.

I have been working on block 13 too, which combines a broderie perse centre with a pieced border.

I found the perfect fabric to go with my broderie perse bouquet in my stash.

This Windermere panel from Di's fabric line will be included in my Sarah as well. It is the exact size of the "Sarah" blocks.

And several broderie perse blocks are prepped but not yet appliqued.

Lastly I would like to send very strong healing vibes and best wishes for a full recovery to Di Ford.
