WOW: Still Dear Jane & Garden Photographs

For WOW this week, I completed another block for my Dear Jane quilt, one of the burgundy/cream ones:

My layout will be a Trip Around the World, with burgundy and dusky pinks, and burgundy/cream and dusky pinks/creams for contrast. This is a burgundy/cream one, which is called "B9 - Tinker Toy".
It will be in the 9th position on the second row (that is what B9 means).

I did some more photography in the garden yesterday. First quite early to catch the dew drops on the plants and flowers:

Don't the dew drops just look like pearls?
De dauwdruppeltjes zijn toch net pareltjes?

And later in the day I had another session after it had rained for a few hours:

I have dug out some more projects to 'borrow' fabrics for my Dear Jane project. So much fun to find all the burgundy, pink and cream treasures in my stash. Since I only need small pieces for the DJ blocks (they are 4.5 inch square) I'm not wreaking too much havock on my other projects.

Now I will link this post to Esther Aliu's WOW. If you want to see some inspirational needlework, make yourself a cuppa and visit Esther's WOW page, where many stitchers from all over the world write about their adventures.

Dear Jane & Violet

On the day of my sister's birthday, I stitched Dear Jane C2 "Streak of Lightning" using a pink fabric my Mum gave me, and a cream one from my stash.

The little vagabond violet is still in flower
Het kleine verdwaalde bosviooltje bloeit nog steeds

My Favourite Flower?

I am finding it so hard to decide what my favourite garden flower is.

But this ranks right there at the top of my favourites. Yesterday it was very beautiful after the rain. Now that the flower has dried, you can see the structure in the leaves better, and also the pale blue shows up better.

Edited to add: it is an Aquilegia.

Dear Jane & A Stroll in the Garden After the Rain

Two more Dear Jane blocks are done.
The above one is A13 - "Starlight Starbright"
The pink fabric is a gift from my friend Carla.

Today's rainy afternoon produced B13 "Four Corner Press"

After which I took the camera into the garden, because the sun came out and I just love the raindrops on the flowers and plants:

The droplets look like pearls on this hosta leaf.

I loved the droplet that was held by two dicentra flowers.

Those raindrops are quite heavy when you are a violet.

One of my birthday aquilegias after the rain.
Een van mijn verjaardags-akeleitjes na de regen.

This violet self-seeded in a container with something totally different. And is still in flower. So pretty.
A gift from Mother Nature.
Zo mooi. Een cadeautje van Moeder Natuur.

I loved the shape of the big droplet.

And after all that, I am trying to solve this puzzle:

Dear Jane C5 "Eye of the Cyclone"

Dear Jane really has captured my imagination. My other projects are sadly neglected at the moment.
Dear Jane heeft me echt in haar ban.

Dear Jane & Garden

We had a thunderstorm with big hail stones and rain yesterday and I was worried about the beautiful flowers in our garden.

Wat a relief to find the new purple aquilegia undamaged this morning:

And also the violets were still there
En de bosviooltje waren er ook nog

The pansies did suffer a lot (too sad to show you a picture) but there are still lots of buds, so I will do my best to get them going again.

I also finished two Dear Jane blocks:

B11 - Melissa's Cross, using fabrics from my own stash
B11 - Melissa's Cross, gemaakt van mijn eigen stofjes

and B3 - Mirror Image, also using my own fabrics.

I received an envelope with a Dear Jane contribution from my friend Carla this afternoon. Perfect timing, just before the weekend, and our new King's Day which is now on the 27th of April (our King's birthday) instead of 30th of April (our former Queen Mother's birthday). This year it will be celebrated a day early, on the Saturday.
Thank you, Carla!

And I 'found' some more cream-on-cream background fabrics at my favourite quiltshop Samsara Quilting in Lisse today. My weekend is all sorted! :o)

It is easier said than done to decide that each block will have differen fabrics. The dusky pinks and burdundy's are not too hard to find (with help from my friends), but the creams are more difficult.

So fabric manufacturors, please get to work to make some more pretty creams for my Dear Jane :o)

Thank you so much for all your kind comments on my previous posts and garden pictures.
And welcome to my new followers.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend and for my Dutch followers and visitors: wishing you a lovely first King's Day.

WOW: Dear Jane & Garden Photographs

Dear Jane really has captured my imagination and I am looking for bits of burgundy and pink fabrics in my stash, and my Mum's stash too.

I completed three more blocks:

A6, using fabrics from my own stash.

C1, using a pink fabric which Jane sent me for my birthday, combined with a cream one which I bought at the quiltshow in Rijswijk.

And B8, using fabrics from my Mums stash which she gave me on Friday.

On Easter Monday, I took some pictures of our garden after it had rained:

Droplets on a hosta plant.
Druppels op een hosta.

A Dicentra leaf ... also known as Bleeding Heart...

... and its beautiful flowers
...en zijn prachtige bloemen

A purple violet. The colours are much darker in real life, but the digital camera just won't get those right.

Another hosta.
Nog een hosta.

I'm still working on Antique Wedding Sampler by Di Ford, but with Dear Jane butting in as she has done, I will just work on what calls the loudest for now.

Thanks for all your kind wishes for my birthday.

Bedankt voor al jullie lieve verjaardagswensen.

I will link this blog post to Esther Aliu's WOW (WIPs on Wednesdays). Please visit all the lovely blogs by stitchers from all over the world.

.... your sister and niece buy you these beautiful tulips (cat not included ;o))

.... your niece crochets this beautiful cat bed for your furbaby Luna

I also completed two more Dear Jane blocks:

Dear Jane A5, 30 pieces on 11 x 11 cm / 4.5 x 4.5 inches
Dear Jane B12

I had better go and plant my new treasures in the garden, and finish off the next Dear Jane block.

Thanks for dropping by. I will be back soon with new blocks for my Antique Wedding Sampler (Di Ford).

Patchwork & Quiltdagen Rijswijk

Today I visited the "Patchwork & Quiltdagen" quiltshow in Rijswijk together with my friend Carla (no blog).

The majority of the quilts on show was quite modern, but we managed to find quite a few which we liked. First of all these three quilts bij Jacqueline de Jonge:

I took a few detail images of this quilt, because the quilting was so beautiful...

... and also to show the beautiful combination of batik fabrics with 'ordinary' fabrics.

There were quite a few art quilts on show.

Er hingen vrij veel art quilts.

My favourite was this tryptich by Erica van den Berg called  "Aarde" ("Earth")

And this beautiful piece by Ineke van Unen called "Vrijheid 2" ("Freedom 2")

It was only about A4 size.

Hij had ongeveer het formaat van een A4.

This purple beauty was stitched by Claudia Kreuzig from Germany and is called "Geißblatt" (honeysuckle)

I took a detail photo to show the wonderful quilting, using the colours in the fabrics.

And this art quilt by Heide Stoll-Weber from Germany was called "Rock Formation I".

I was impressed by the pale fabrics, which received their detail through the clever quilting.

And of course I have to show you my new stash. Some cream, pink and burgundy fabrics for my Dear Jane:

And a few fabrics to add to my stash of reproduction fabrics for different projects:

I hope you enjoyed my little tour around the quiltshow.
Until next time with news about my own projects.
