WOW: Mountmellick & Stonefields

Whilst I am waiting for the second part of Stonefields to arrive, I made some more hexagon flowers for said project.

Karen sent me this lovely William Morris fabric. Thank you, Karen!
Karen stuurde me deze mooie William Morris stof. Dank je wel, Karen!
And Jane sent me this sweet little kitty drinking from a cup. Thank you, Jane!

And I worked on my sadly neglected Mountmellick project, the Di Ford mystery 2014.

I'm working on all the parts which have been published so far.

I had decided to embroider the stems in the center piece of this quilt, but of course I needed to choose the right stitch. I discovered there is such a thing as a Mountmellick Stitch, which would be very appropriate, but it is difficult to stitch on cotton quilting fabric. Pretty though.

In the end I settled for the Hungarian Braided Stitch. A beautiful stitch for stems.
Ik koos uiteindelijk de Hungaarse gevlochten steek. Een mooie steek voor stengels.

And in the mean time I am working on the borders of part 2

Those for part 3 of this quilt

Part 4
Deel 4

And the lastest part till date, part 5:

And this is more or less how it will end up looking all together:

I'm using mostly reproduction fabrics designed by Judie Rothermel. They are my absolute favourites and they all look so lovely together. A few exceptions are the green swags and the broderie perse fabric (the roses used in the centre and part 3).

The last part is due mid November, which involves lots of six pointed stars. Could be interesting!
Het laatste deel wordt half november verwacht. Daarin komen heel veel zespuntige sterren voor. Leuk!

But first I'm expecting the arrival of part 2 of Stonefields, hopefully before the weekend. Another 12 blocks to make.

Back soon with more news of my projects. Thank you so much for your lovely comments.

WOW: Stonefields Hexagon Flowers & Flying Geese

After completing the blocks for month 1 of Stonefields, I started making hexagon flowers and flying geese. For Stonefields' border I need 168 hexagon flowers and three of them are used on blocks in the centre of the quilt. And the inner border consists of 44 flying geese on each side.

So far I have completed 5 hexagon flowers. Still 12 to go for this month!

Karen gave me the beautiful William Morris fabric used in this hexagon.

A small start on my flying geese inner border.

Jane sent me some fabrics for Stonefields. The little pussycat and the doggie are just too sweet. They will be used as hexagon centres. And the other two fabrics are waiting for the perfect block to come along. The card is lovely too.

She also sent me the leftover corners of her Home Sweet Home quilt, to be used for my Dear Jane or my quilt with roses which is still in the planning stages.
Thank you very much, Jane!

A few days ago the sun came out after a shower and our new pansies looked beautiful.

Back soon with more news of Stonefields. It won't be long before part 2 arrives. I cannot wait!

I will be linking with Esther's blog for WOW (WIPs on Wednesdays). If you need inspiration that's the place to go.

Stonefields Part 1

Last night I completed the last block for month one of Stonefields by Susan Smith. This month we are making 13 blocks

Here are the four stars, which will go in the four corners of the centre part of the quilt

Next came two Orange Peel blocks
Toen kwamen de Orange Peel blokjes
two Pomegranate blocks
twee Pomegranates
Two St Honoré Gateaus
Twee St Honoré taartjes
Two Willies Birthday blocks
We vierden Willie's verjaardag twee keer
I chose the centre circles for these blocks over the weekend

And the last block was the "Posy Pot".

I made this block yesterday.
Dit blokje heb ik gisteren gemaakt.

My friend Michele sent me some background fabrics for Stonefields.
Mijn vriendin Michele stuurde me een paar achtergrondjes voor Stonefields.
Thank you Michele!
Dank je wel, Michele!

And now I'm working ahead, doing this month's share of flying geese for the inner borders and the hexagon flowers for the outer borders. I need 17 flying geese and 17 flowers for October.

This looks like a lot of hexagons, but they will only make five and a half flowers. And I need 171 of them.

I cannot wait for month two's patterns to arrive in the post. This is so much fun.

Stonefields

Yep, I fell for Stonefields too.

My first instalment arrived on October 2nd and I started that same afternoon. As usual, I'm using my own fabrics. In 10 days' time I completed three stars, and found my fabric for the fourth star...

completed two Orange Peel blocks...
twee Orange Peels afgemaakt...

Orange Peel I

Orange Peel II
And the first Pomegranate is done too.
En de eerste Pomegranate is ook af.

The Orange Peel part of this Pomegranate was made using a fabric which Jane sent me (shown in my previous post). The William Morris fabric (top left) used in the first Orange Peel was also a gift from Jane.

Yesterday I made the first four circles for the first of two St Honoré Gateau, using Perfect Circle templates:

This is what the gateau looks like now
Zo ziet het taartje er nu uit

Difficult to see in the first picture, but it has a pretty white on cream butterfly in the centre.
I had to cut away the background fabric (eek...), because the little red flower were showing through the gateau.

I used scraps sent to me by stitching friend Hanneke (thank you Hanneke!) and fabrics from my stash.

I made some more circles late last night, and it looks like I may need to do something about the pink scrap of fabric I used, it is bleeding quite badly.

And I also worked on the first Willie's Birthday block, which is still missing one 'leaf'.

Two more scraps from Hanneke and the cream with pink flowers was sent to me by Helen from Australia. Maybe you recognize it from my Dear Jane block where it was also used.

I just love using different bits of fabrics given to me by friends from all over the world. It makes this quilt very special.

This blog post was supposed to be about Mountmellick, on which I was working away faithfully, until the first Stonefields envelope arrived in the post. Once I have completed the first instalment, I will be going back to Mountmellick. I have seen a sneak preview of how it will look finished and now I need to get a move-on until the last part is published mid November.

Back soon with more news of Stonefields and Mountmellick.
