Stonefields & Mountmellick

At the moment I'm alternating Mountmellick and Stonefields.
In Mountmellick there is a lot of repetition in the borders, which can be a bit boring at times. Which is then the moment to switch to Stonefields and make a hexagon flower or one of the blocks that still need doing.

In Mountmellick zit veel herhaling in de randen en dat kan een beetje saai worden. Op zo'n moment werk in een tijdje aan Stonefields en maak een hexagonbloemetje of een van de blokjes die nog gemaakt moeten worden.

Two days ago I finished this sweet block, and added a hexagon flower today.
The block is Stonefields number 39, "Mirror Mirror". 
Twee dagen geleden heb ik dit schattige blokje gemaakt en vandaag heb ik er een hexagonbloem bij gemaakt. Het blokje is Stonefields 39, "Mirror Mirror".

This is hexagon flower #11. I still need 160 of these for Stonefield's border. 
Dit is bloemetje nummer 11. Ik moet er nog 160 maken voor de rand van Stonefields. 



The reason bunnies needed to be included in my Stonefields, is that I have loved rabbits from a very young age.
De reden dat er konijntjes in mijn Stonefields moesten komen, is dat ik altijd al gek ben geweest op konijnen, van jongs af aan. 

I'm probably around 10 years old in this picture, living in Ethiopia in Africa and being surrounded by all sorts of creatures, including lots of rabbits.
I think this picture was taken in Holland, at my aunt's, whilst on holiday back in my native country.
Ik denk dat ik een jaar of 10 was op deze foto, en ik woonde in Ethiopië in Afrika, omringd door allerlei drieren, ook veel konijnen. 
Ik denk dat deze foto genomen is op vakantie in Nederland, bij mijn tante, even terug in mijn geboorteland.  

There are some more "Mirror Mirror" centre pieces ready for applique. I'm doing four of these instead of three, because I'm not too keen on making three of the "Primrose" blocks.
Ik heb al wat meer "Mirror Mirror" middenstukjes klaar liggen om geappliqueerd te worden. Ik maak vier van deze blokjes, want vier "Primroses" maken trekt me niet zo erg.

I've also done some work on Mountmellick, piecing the border for part 6 and adding paper-pieced stars. They are not yet attached. The border is still subject to change and I need six more stars for the first border (times 4 so a total of 36 stars). 
Ik heb ook gewerkt aan Mountmellick en heb de rand in elkaar gezet voor deel 6 en paper-piecing sterretjes gemaakt. Ze zitten nog niet vast. De rand kan nog veranderen en ik moet nog 6 sterren voor deze kant maken (maal 4 dus totaal 36 sterren).

Mountmellick Progress

It dawned on me today that I haven't yet showed you part 2 of Mountmellick, which I completed last week.
Vandaag bedacht ik dat ik jullie nog niet deel 2 van Mountmellick heb laten zien, die ik vorige week heb afgemaakt. 

In the corners, the pattern suggests a hexagon flower with four petals, which I duly made, but found a bit too overbearing.
Op het patroon staat een hexagonbloem met vier blaadjes voor de hoeken, die ik ook braaf gemaakt heb. Maar ik vond het een beetje druk. 

So this is what I'm planning to do instead, once part 3 is ready and attached, so I can properly centre the circles.
Dit is wat ik in de hoeken ga doen, als eenmaal deel 3 af is en eraan gezet, zodat ik de rondjes mooi kan centreren.

The borders for part 3 are ready as far as the hexagons and the stems and leaves are concerned, but still need all the broderie Perse, which takes up a lot of time.
De hexagons, de stengels en de blaadjes voor deel 3 zijn klaar, maar ik moet nog wel alle broderie Perse doen, dat veel tijd kost. 

Here is a sneak preview of the first broderie Perse rose which I appliqued last night.
Hier is een voorproefje van de eerste broderie Perse roos die ik gisteravond heb geappliqueerd. 

A lot of fussy cutting is going on for this project, and this is what a piece of fabric looks like when this has happened.
Voor dit project ben ik veel aan het 'fussy cutten' en zo ziet een stuk stof eruit als je daarmee bezig geweest bent. 

Still plenty more to be had from this piece of fabric ;o)
Er kan nog veel meer worden geknipt uit dit stofje ;o) 


The chair covers of our dining room chairs needed replacing, so I started taking apart one cover to use as a pattern, and with a little help from my furry friend, I cut out all the parts for the first cover.
De stoelhoezen van onze eetkamerstoelen moeten vervangen worden en zondag ben ik begonnen met het uit elkaar halen van een hoes die als patroon gaat dienen, en met een beetje hulp van mijn harige vriendje heb ik alle onderdelen voor de eerste hoes geknipt. 

Not long after these pictures were taken, he was banned from the room. And as every cat would do, he bore a grudge. Thankfully he couldn't keep it up for very long and soon he was sitting between us purring happily.
Vlak na het nemen van deze foto's is hij naar de gang verbannen en zoals iedere cat zou doen, was hij zwaar beledigd. Gelukkig hield hij het niet lang vol en kwam hij gezellig tussen ons in zitten snorren.

Mountmellick Centre Piece

Finally I can show you my centre piece for Mountmellick, the Di Ford Mystery. I completed it last night.
Ik kan jullie eindelijk mijn middenstuk laten zien van Mountmellick, de Di Ford mystery. Ik heb het gisteravond afgemaakt. 

Doing my own thing with this mystery proved harder than I had thought. The 'flower arranging' was finally done late last night and I can now share pictures of what I did.
Zelf stofkeuzes maken voor deze mystery bleek lastiger dan ik had gedacht. Het 'bloemschikken' was gisteravond eidenlijk klaar en nu kan ik foto's laten zien van wat ik heb gedaan. 

I stitched the stems using mostly the Hungarian Braided Stem Stitch and for the tendrils I used the normal stem stitch.
Ik heb de stengels geborduurd, grotendeels met de Hungarian Braided Stem Stitch en voor de ranken de normale steelsteek. 

Instead of the broderie perse flowers in between the swags, I made circles of my favourite ochre fabric with roses.
In plaats van de roze broderie Perse bloemetjes tussen de guirlandes, heb ik rondjes gemaakt van mijn favoriete oker rozenstof. 

Borders 2 to 5 are mostly almost completed, so it should go a bit faster from now on. I cannot wait to attach border 2, to see how my focus fabrics - mostly by Judie Rothermel - work with this romantic and soft feel of the centre piece.
Randen 2 tot en met 5 zijn grotendeels klaar, dus het zou vanaf nu wat sneller moeten gaan. Ik kan niet wachten om te zien hoe rand 2 met mijn basiststofjes - grotendeels van Judie Rothermel - staan bij de romantische en zachte middenstuk.

Stonefields Part2 Progress

Stonefields part 2 arrived last Saturday, with the tiniest of hexagons for two 'Bordered Hexagons' blocks.
Deel 2 van Stonefields kwam vorige week zaterdag, met hele kleine hexagonnetjes voor de twee "Bordered Hexagon" blokjes. 

The first block I chose to make is "O is for Oscar" using a blue toile which I bought on Facebook last week, a background fabric given to me by Mum, a scrap from Hanneke, and a fabric from my stash. I need three of these blocks. 
Het eerste blokje dat ik koos, is een "O is for Oscar"blokje. Ik gebruike een blauwe toile die ik vorige week via Facebook kocht, een achtergrondstofje van Mam, een scrapje van Hanneke en een stofje uit mijn eigen voorraad. Ik heb drie van deze blokjes nodig.

Then I started a "Bordered 3/8" Hexagons" block, but I still need to complete the hexagon flower in the centre. I need two of these (in different colours of course)
Toen begon ik aan een "Bordered 3/8" Hexagons" blokje, maar ik moet de hexagonbloem nog afmaken. Ik heb twee van deze blokjes nodig (natuurlijk in verschillende kleuren).

I have just prepared the third "O is for Oscar" block, which still needs a centre square.

And I'm working on the "Star in a Star" block too. In the mean time I swapped the big circle for something different.
En ik werk ook aan het "Star in a Star" blokje. Ondertussen is de grote cirkel vervangen door iets anders. 

I have also been working on Mountmellick by Di Ford, and have finally chosen the circles in between the green swags in the centre piece.
En ondertussen werk ik ook aan Mountmellick van Di ford, en heb eindelijk de rondjes gekozen tussen de groene guirlandes in het middenstuk. 

And I added a broderie perse rose on top of the vase.
Ik heb een broderie perse roos op de vaas gezet. 

I have just prepared some circles for Mountmellick and for Stonefields, including the two circles for the centres of the two Oscillateurs.They are drying as we speak.
En ik heb net rondjes gemaakt voor Mountmellick en Stonefields, inclusief de twee rondjes voor de Oscillateurs. Die liggen nu te drogen.

WOW: Mountmellick & Stonefields

Whilst I am waiting for the second part of Stonefields to arrive, I made some more hexagon flowers for said project.
Terwijl ik wacht op deel 2 van Stonefields, heb ik nog wat meer hexagonbloemen voor dat project gemaakt.

And I worked on my sadly neglected Mountmellick project, the Di Ford mystery 2014.
En ik werkte aan mijn arme verwaarloosde Mountmellick project, de Di Ford mystery 2014. 

I'm working on all the parts which have been published so far.
Ik werk aan alle delen die tot nu toe zijn uitgekomen. 

I had decided to embroider the stems in the center piece of this quilt, but of course I needed to choose the right stitch. I discovered there is such a thing as a Mountmellick Stitch, which would be very appropriate, but it is difficult to stitch on cotton quilting fabric. Pretty though.
Ik had besloten de stengels te borduren, maar moest natuurlijk eerst de juiste steek kiezen. Ik ontdekte dat er zoiets bestaat als een Mountmellick steek, die heel toepasselijk zou zijn omdat het project zo heet, maar het is moeilijk te borduren op katoenen quiltstof. Maar wel mooi hoor. 

In the end I settled for the Hungarian Braided Stitch. A beautiful stitch for stems.
Ik koos uiteindelijk de Hungaarse gevlochten steek. Een mooie steek voor stengels.

I'm using mostly reproduction fabrics designed by Judie Rothermel. They are my absolute favourites and they all look so lovely together. A few exceptions are the green swags and the broderie perse fabric (the roses used in the centre and part 3).
Ik gebruik bijna allemaal stoffen van Judie Rothermel. Het zijn echt mijn favoriete stoffen en ze staan zo mooi bij elkaar. Een paar uitzonderingen zijn de groene guirlandes en de broderie pese stof (de rozen in het midden en in deel 3).

The last part is due mid November, which involves lots of six pointed stars. Could be interesting!
Het laatste deel wordt half november verwacht. Daarin komen heel veel zespuntige sterren voor. Leuk!

But first I'm expecting the arrival of part 2 of Stonefields, hopefully before the weekend. Another 12 blocks to make.
Maar eerst verwacht ik deel twee van Stonefields, hopelijk nog voor het weekend. Er zijn weer 12 blokjes om te maken.

Dear Jane & Garden

About time I showed you something stitchy. I have been alternating Mountmellick (the mystery by Di Ford), Love Entwined (the marriage coverlet by Esther Aliu) and Dear Jane over the past months.
Het wordt tijd dat ik jullie iets handwerkerigs laat zien. Ik heb de afgelopen maanden afwisselend gewerkt aan Mountmellick (de mystery van Di Ford), Love Entwined (de bruidssprei van Esther Aliu) en Dear Jane. 

I have three completed blocks for Dear Jane to share:

Dear Jane H10 "Ben's Bowtie" using a fabric from Mum and a cream scrap left over from something else.
My 18th Dear Jane block out of 169.

Next came Dear Jane H4, because I was working on my Mountmellick project and two of the fabrics were just perfect for this little block called "Abbey's Eyes".

Toen kwam Dear jane H4, omdat ik aan Mountmellick werkte en twee stoffen uit dat project zijn gewoon perfect voor dit kleine blokje dat "Abbey's Eyes" heet.

And I have just completed Dear Jane G5 "Poof" using fabrics given to me by my friends Jane from Wales and Glenda from Australia. Thank you my dears!

On Thursday my brother and I photographed some special plants which are growing in my area. I was given the task of keeping an eye on them so my brother, who loves wild orchids, could come and photograph them when they were in flower.
Op donderdag fotografeerden mijn broer en ik speciale planten die hier in de buurt groeien. Ik had de opdracht gekregen op te letten zodat mijn broer, die gek is op wilde orchideeën, ze kon komen fotograferen als ze bloeiden. 

They are called broad-leafed heleborines, a wild orchid. The flowers are absolutely tiny. Only about 12 mm across.
Het is de brede wespenorchis, een wilde orchidee. De bloemetjes zijn piepklein. Ongeveer 12 mm breed.

We noticed they have a very sweet scent, even though all the blurb on the internet says they don't actually have any scent.
Het viel ons op dat ze heel zoet geurden, ook al zegt alle informatie op het internet dat ze geen geur verspreiden. 

A few days back I took advantage of a split-second of gorgeous evening light to photograph our new foxglove plant. My favourite photo which I took in the garden until now.
Een paar dagen geleden pakte ik mijn kans toen er heel kort prachtig avondlicht op het nieuwe vingerhoedskruid stond. Mijn lievelingsfoto uit de tuin tot nu toe. 

And some proof that I am actually working on Mountmellick, the Di Ford Mystery, here are two pictures of my progress until 7th July. Since I didn't sign up for the kits, I'm doing my own thing and I now have it pinned on an old duvet cover and hung against the side-board. This helps me to coordinate the colours and to decide how 'intense' I want the centre flowers to be. It looks a bit chaotic, but I'm actually making progress ;o)
En als laatste nog wat bewijs dat ik ech werk aan Mountmellick, de mystery van Di Ford. Hier zijn twee foto's van mijn voortang tot 7 juli. Aangezien ik me niet had ingeschreven voor de BOM, doe ik mijn eigen ding en heb ik alle onderdelen op een oud dedkbedovertrek gespeld en het geheel tegen onze buffetkast gehangen. Dit helpt me om de kleuren bij elkaar te laten passen en te besluiten hoe 'pittig' ik de bloemen in het middenpaneel wil laten zijn. Het ziet er een beetje chaotisch uit, maar ik boek echt vooruitgang ;o)
