Frosty Bubbles

We have had very frosty weather recently, with a cover of snow. Perfect weather to take out the bubble blowing kit (one of those kid's toys) and blow bubbles outside, and then wait for them to freeze. This wasn't my idea originally, but it is so much fun to do, albeit a tad chilly.

It is a bit hit and miss. First you have to have a bubble that doesn't immediately burst and then you have to wait for it to freeze and hope that it won't burst whilst it is doing that.

Yesterday morning I managed to capture that moment.
Gistermorgen heb ik dat moment vastgelegd.

Sometimes there are nice reflections, such as our home in this bubble.

Just another one from yesterday's session, which was different.

I hope you like my frosty bubbles. Sorry to my quilting friends. I'm still working on Love Entwined and there is not much to show at the moment.

From Yellow to Ochre - Van geel naar oker

Promises need to be kept, so I'm starting a new blog post right now.

When I decided that I didn't like the yellow in my Love Entwined after all, this meant I had to make a new compass too. Not that that stopped me.

First I unpicked the broderie perse rose and laid it on top of my new compass, to see whether I liked that enough to swap them out. I loved what I saw, and took the compass out.

Then I inserted the new compass and thread-basted it in place.

So far so good. It still needs reverse appliqueing in place. And the broderie perse rose appliqued.
Now I am happy and can continue my LE journey.

This means unpicking all the yellow bits in the centre, and inserting new ochre bits. On the borders, this is mostly done already.

Some of you may remember my furry helper. Well, he is still helping and I couldn't do this without him, of course.

Friday, on the way home from visiting my Mum and Dad, who live just a village away now, I took this picture of an amazing sunset on the way back. This is around the corner from where we live.

And what you cannot see in this picture, was visible on Sunday on the way back, our area still covered in snow. Same farm, same spot, just a bit earlier in the day.

Back soon with more news of what is happening with my stitching, my photography, and my life.

Over a Year Since my Last Post

So it has been over a year since I last wrote anything here. I didn't intend to give up on it, but Facebook has somehow taken over and it is much faster to just post a finished block there for my stitching friends to see.

I'm still more or less working on the same projects. Mainly Love Entwined by Esther Aliu, a bit of Dear Jane and a bit of Antique Wedding Sampler by Di Ford.

I went off the yellow fabric which I chose for the narrow borders, and went for a gold one by Hoffman instead. This meant I had to redo my compass. It had yellow, and also other fabrics which I didn't use in the rest of the quilt.

This is the new 'ochre' fabric which I prefer to the old one. This means all the yellow needs to come out....

The new compass was finished on January 17th, but still needs to be inserted in the compass ring

The centre with the new compass loosely pinned to it.

The first two rows of borders are in different stages of completion, with the repetition mostly done.
In the second row of borders, each border has 86 of those leaves.

Now that I'm happy with my colours for LE, I can continue.

Purple berries? Burgundy berries? Which broderie perse flower? Still choosing as I go along.

Paarse besjes? Bordeauxrode besjes? Welke broderie perse bloem?

I ordered some of the new 80 wt Aurifil applique thread and I love it. For now I have three colours, but more will be added soon. It is very fine, but very easy to use, and it doesn't tangle or knot.

Highlight of the quilting year for me was Jane's visit. It was the first time we met and we spent such a lovely day in our garden, together with her lovely husband.

Our new home is slowly receiving its badly needed TLC. We have now finished the sitting room and the settees arrived just before Christmas. We love how cozy it now is.

We still need some more things on the walls and curtains, but we will get there at some point.

Our main feature at the moment are these lovely panels which we found whilst out shopping for Christmas presents.

This is the area where our home is situated. To the right of that highest tree in the middle, are two of our walnut trees.

Our home last month, when it was very foggy early one morning.

Unfortunately we lost our sweet tomcat Elvis two weeks ago. He was 11.5 years old when he passed away in my arms.

We hebben helaas twee weken geleden onze lieve kater Elvis verloren. Hij was 11,5 jaar oud toen hij in mijn armen stierf.

This is my favourite photograph of him as a 12 week old kitten

We miss him so much.

We missen hem vreselijk.

Back soon (I hope!) with more news of my different projects and what is happening in my life.
