WOW: More Watercolour Painting & Rainy Days in the Garden

Still no pictures of my stitching projects but I am still stitching Love Entwined. I'm working on the different borders and corners, to see whether my colour palette is working. But this means I have no completed sections to show you yet.

I had more painting sessions and first of all played with a photograph which my brother took on his holidays, with my painting in mind. It is a Briar Rose.

And this is what happened when I painted it
En dit heb ik ervan gemaakt

Next I painted another pansy using my new duochrome and pearl Daniel Smith Watercolour paints

And I started a little landscape from memory, which isn't quite finished yet. Not sure what it needs to finish it, so I have it out and I keep looking at it to see what needs adding. That's the downside of painting from memory, you have to come up with all the elements of the scene yourself.

This is what I have done so far.

It has been raining for days here and even though I'm not a huge fan of rain, it has its advantages:

I took a better picture of my favourite flower painting so far, also of a pansy:

Now I'm off to link my blog to Esther's WOW (WIPs on Wednesdays). If you need some creative inspiration, have a look at all the lovely work that is displayed through the links that were added by creative people from all over the world.

More Watercolour Painting & Hydrangeas

On Friday I had another long watercolour painting session in the garden.

First I did some studies of violets which I picked from our garden.

Then I painted this landscape from memory, using only four colours. The main one being my favourite colour from my Daniel Smith Watercolor paints: Lunar Blue.

I received this envelope with pieces of fabric for my Dear Jane project from my friend Glenda in Australia. Thank you so much, Glenda! You will now also be included in my Dear Jane.

I just took these pictures of our hydrangeas, which are suddenly turning pink.

Thank you very much for your kind comments on my watercolour adventures.
Bedankt voor jullie leuke berichtjes over mijn aquarel-avonturen.

I will be back soon with pictures of my Love Entwined coverlet, which is coming along slowly but surely.

Wishing you all a lovely sunny Sunday.
Ik wens jullie een fijne zonnige zondag.

WOW: More Watercolour Painting

Besides stitching on my Love Entwined Coverlet by Esther Aliu (pictures to follow soon), I have found my painting mojo back and I am now painting several times a week, with mixed results.

On Sunday it was lovely weather so I installed my stuff outside in the garden and had a go at painting the pink tulips which are currently flowering in our garden.

This is the picture I showed you a few days back:

And this is my second attempt. It is not quite 'there' yet, but the colours are spot-on. Practise makes perfect :o)
Oefening baart kunst :o)

I took some more pictures of the tulips yesterday, so I can keep painting them once they are no longer in flower.

I also painted a landscape from memory, of my beloved Scotland.
It still needs some tweaking, so I have it out on display and I keep looking at it and figuring out what will work for it and what won't.

One thing that it needs is the reflection of the cloud in the loch. To be continued.

My Love Entwined is coming along slowly but surely and I think I know where I'm going with the part 8 and 9 borders and the corners which go with those borders.
Back soon with pictures of my progress.

I will be linking this blog post to Esther Aliu's WOW.

Esther has also found her Love Entwined mojo and it is coming along beautifully.

Watercolour Flowers

Sorry, no stitching this time (which doesn't mean I'm not stitching ;o) )

I'm trying something different by painting flowers 'live' in the garden in watercolour, without prior sketching. These exercises take about 10 minutes and I have to work very fast whilst the paint is flowing.

First I tried this Clematis
Eerst probeerde ik deze clematis

And next I painted a pansy which I picked from our garden

Everything is flowering beautifully, including the foxglove which I sowed last year.

This morning I got up early and the light was beautiful, so I picked up my camera and found this treasure in our garden. I planted the tulip bulbs way too late this year, but that means I now have these beauties in flower.

A very inspiring image which is getting my creative mojo going.

Hope you are all enjoying the wonderful weather.

WOW: Lots of Things

Since I am not going out much because I'm not feeling well, I'm playing with my fabrics, threads and paints.

First of all, I completed Dear Jane D4"Crystal Star" using a burgundy fabric from my stash, and a cream background which Jane sent me.

Last time I told you I had received new watercolour paints. And by that I meant a new brand which has come on the market in the Netherlands. They are "Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors"and I just love them!

I tested them a few days back, painting in our garden on a lovely day. I only had four colours then, but I just had to order some more of the colours I usually use for my landscape paintings.

This is the first test I did
Dit was het eerste testje

I just love the way the pigment behaves on the watercolour painting.

And later that day I painted this little landscape, borrowing one extra colour (Cereleum blue) from my Winsor & Newton paints.

The violets in de the garden are still flowering beautifully. Isn't it lovely how many different flowers this one has.

I especially love this little one.
Ik vind vooral dit kleintje zo mooi.

When I was looking for some fabrics for my Dear Jane blocks in my stash, I stumbled across my Leanne's House project. It has been ages since I worked on it. Since 20th February 2011 to be precise.
I was still into fusible/blanket stitch applique, which I don't like anymore now. So I'm ripping out the fusible bits and replacing them with needleturn applique, using the same fabrics in most places.

This afternoon I'm replacing the hearts in parts 1 to 3.

This vase and its contents have to go too. I have prepared most of the pieces to go straight back in with needleturn applique. Now I need to hunt down some of the 'missing' fabrics which got 'borrowed' for something else :o)

Call me crazy, but I couldn't work on this anymore if I didn't get those previous parts 'sorted' first. Part 6 is nearly ready. All the stitcheries were already done and most of the pieces of fabric pinned to the pattern.
Deel 6 is bijna klaar.

At this rate, am I ever going to get any of my projects finished? ;o)

Thank you so much for your kind wishes for my health.
Bedankt voor jullie lieve beterschapswensen.

I will link my blog to Esther Aliu's WOW (WIPs on Wednesdays).

Dear Jane & Lovely Snailmail

After two attempts at piecing Dear Jane C5 "Eye of the Cyclone" I have finally got it sorted.

It looks a bit crooked in this image, but the seams are probably pointing the wrong way. All the seams are straight. Pfew.
Pfew.

First I ran out of burgundy thread. Ineke went shopping for me so I could continue (thank you Ineke!)

Then it looked like this
En toen zag het er zo uit.

The snailmail was rather good over the past few days. Apart from some new water colour paints and paper which arrived yesterday (more about that in a coming post), Michele sent me these lovely birthday goodies.

A gorgeous book by Sandra Leichner, a beautiful card, a pretty charm...

... and inside the card she drew me her little Mousie with a birthday cake.
Thank you, Michele!

I fell in love with this design by Sandra of a fuchsia, and traced the pieces last night. To be continued.

Yesterday, postie brought me a package from Jane in Wales, who sent me these beautiful background fabrics for my Dear Jane. Thank you Jane!
Gisteren bracht de postbode me een pakje van Jane in Wales, die me deze prachtige achtergrondjes voor mijn Dear Jane stuurde. Dank je wel, Jane!

And postie also brought a packet of special seeds. I will tell you about them later.

In the garden everything is growing well and fast. This foxglove which I sowed last year is about to flower.

And the little vagabond violet has come up with a different colour. So beautiful! (my painting mojo has been triggered)
Zo mooi! (de schilderkriebels zijn zeer aanwezig)

An aquilegia which came back is being nibbled by something

Back soon with more Dear Jane, more garden photos and how knows what else.

Another Dear Jane Block

Yesterday I pieced and appliqued Dear Jane C9 "Jane's Tears" using fabrics from two other projects

Thank you for all your kind wishes. I'm feeling a bit better.
Bedankt voor jullie lieve wensen. Ik voel me al iets beter.

A Creative Day

My health is not doing what it is supposed to be doing at the moment and I'm taking it very easy since I became unwell on Friday.

My sister had to take over my 'duties' of taking my Mum to the hospital today (thank you dear Sis!) so that gave me time to relax and when I'm relaxing, my creative mojo wakes up.

First I had a little photo session in the garden. The dew drops were so beautiful again this morning.

Scraps like these (thank you, Mum!) are heaven for a quilter working on Dear Jane. It has lots of different squares.

The first DJ block that came from this little heap of scraps is this pretty one that I stitched a few days back, and I have two more in the works coming from that same fabric.

I prepared a few more Dear Jane blocks from fabrics coming from my other projects.

And lastly, I felt like painting and wanted to try something new. I normally sketch my water colours and paint from a photograph or from memory. And I have never painted flowers before, except for a few tries a few years back.

The weather was lovely this afternoon, and I spent an hour in the garden, painting this pansy which I picked in our garden. I started in the middle and worked my way out.
I'm quite happy with my first try. To be continued...

My passions are keeping me sane whilst my doctor is trying to figure out what is going on.
Mijn passies houden me op de been terwijl mijn huisarts probeert uit te zoeken wat er aan de hand is.

Back soon with more Dear Jane, and who knows what else.
