WOW: More Watercolour Painting & Rainy Days in the Garden

Still no pictures of my stitching projects but I am still stitching Love Entwined. I'm working on the different borders and corners, to see whether my colour palette is working. But this means I have no completed sections to show you yet.
Ik heb nog steeds geen foto's van mijn handwerprojecten, maar ik werk nog steeds aan Love Entwined. Ik werk aan meerdere randen en hoeken tegelijk, om te zien of de kleuren die ik wil gebruiken ook echt werken. Dat betekent dat ik geen delen af heb om te laten zien.

I had more painting sessions and first of all played with a photograph which my brother took on his holidays, with my painting in mind. It is a Briar Rose.
Ik heb weer een paar keer geschilderd en als eerste gespeeld met een foto die mijn broer op zijn vakantie maakte, met mijn aquarellen in zijn achterhoofd. Het is een egelantier.

Next I painted another pansy using my new duochrome and pearl Daniel Smith Watercolour paints
Daarna schilderde ik nog een viooltje, met mijn nieuwe duochrome en parel verf van Daniel Smith Watercolours.

And I started a little landscape from memory, which isn't quite finished yet. Not sure what it needs to finish it, so I have it out and I keep looking at it to see what needs adding. That's the downside of painting from memory, you have to come up with all the elements of the scene yourself.
En ik begon aan een klein landschapje uit geheugen, dat nog niet helemaal af is. Ik weet niet zo goed wat het nog nodig heeft, dus heb ik het in het zicht staan en kijk ik er steeds naar, zoekend naar de oplossing. Dat is het nadeel van het schilderen uit geheugen, je moet alle elementen zelf bedenken.

It has been raining for days here and even though I'm not a huge fan of rain, it has its advantages:

More Watercolour Painting & Hydrangeas

On Friday I had another long watercolour painting session in the garden.
Vrijdag heb ik weer een lange aquarelsessie in de tuin gehouden.

First I did some studies of violets which I picked from our garden.
Eerst deed ik wat oefeningen met bosviooltjes die ik in onze tuin plukte.

Then I painted this landscape from memory, using only four colours. The main one being my favourite colour from my Daniel Smith Watercolor paints: Lunar Blue.
En daarna schildere ik dit landschap uit geheugen, met maar vier kleuren. De hoofdkleur is mijn favoriete kleur Daniel Smith Watercolor verf: Lunar Blue. 

I received this envelope with pieces of fabric for my Dear Jane project from my friend Glenda in Australia. Thank you so much, Glenda! You will now also be included in my Dear Jane.
Ik ontving deze envelop met stukjes stof voor mijn Dear Jane project van mijn vriendin Glenda uit Australië. Dank je wel Glenda! Nu kom jij ook in mijn Dear Jane. 

I just took these pictures of our hydrangeas, which are suddenly turning pink.
En ik heb net deze foto's van onze hortensia's gemaakt, die opeens roze kleuren.

WOW: More Watercolour Painting

Besides stitching on my Love Entwined Coverlet by Esther Aliu (pictures to follow soon), I have found my painting mojo back and I am now painting several times a week, with mixed results.
Naast het werken aan mijn Love Entwined Coverlet van Esther Aliu (foto's volgen binnenkort), heb ik mijn schildermojo teruggevonden en ik schilder nu meerdere keren per week, met wisselende resultaten.

On Sunday it was lovely weather so I installed my stuff outside in the garden and had a go at painting the pink tulips which are currently flowering in our garden.
Zondag was het heerlijk weer en ik heb mijn schilderspullen buiten geïnstalleerd en heb geprobeerd de roze tulpen die op dit moment in bloei staan in onze tuin te schilderen.

And this is my second attempt. It is not quite 'there' yet, but the colours are spot-on. Practise makes perfect :o)
Dit is mijn tweede poging. Het is het nog niet helemaal, maar de kleuren zijn wel goed. Oefening baart kunst :o) 

I took some more pictures of the tulips yesterday, so I can keep painting them once they are no longer in flower.
Ik heb gisteren nog wat foto's van de tulpen gemaakt, zodat ik kan blijven schilderen als ze niet meer bloeien. 

I also painted a landscape from memory, of my beloved Scotland.
It still needs some tweaking, so I have it out on display and I keep looking at it and figuring out what will work for it and what won't.
Ik heb ook een landschap geschilderd uit geheugen, van mijn geliefde Schotland. 
Het moet nog wat worden bijgewerkt, dus heb ik het in het zicht staan zodat ik er steeds naar kijk en kan bedenken wat wel en niet zou werken voor deze aquarel.  

One thing that it needs is the reflection of the cloud in the loch. To be continued.
Wat het in ieder geval nodig heeft is de weerspiegeling van de wolk in het loch. Wordt vervolgd.

My Love Entwined is coming along slowly but surely and I think I know where I'm going with the part 8 and 9 borders and the corners which go with those borders.

Mijn Love Entwined vordert langzaam maar gestaag, en ik denk dat ik nu weet wat ik wil doen met de randen van deel 8 en 9, en de hoeken die daar bijhoren.

Watercolour Flowers

Sorry, no stitching this time (which doesn't mean I'm not stitching ;o) )
Sorry, niets over handwerken deze keer (wat niet betekent dat ik niet aan het handwerken ben ;o) ) 

I'm trying something different by painting flowers 'live' in the garden in watercolour, without prior sketching. These exercises take about 10 minutes and I have to work very fast whilst the paint is flowing. 
Ik probeer iets nieuws door bloemen te schilderen in aquarel, van levende bloemen en zonder van tevoren te schetsen. Dit zijn oefeningen die binnen 10 minuten op papier staan. Ik moet heel snel werken zolang de verf nog vloeit. 

First I tried this Clematis

And next I painted a pansy which I picked from our garden
En vervolgens een viooltje dat ik in onze tuin plukte

Everything is flowering beautifully, including the foxglove which I sowed last year.
Alle planten staan prachtig te bloeien, ook dit vingerhoedskruid dat ik vorig jaar zaaide. 

This morning I got up early and the light was beautiful, so I picked up my camera and found this treasure in our garden. I planted the tulip bulbs way too late this year, but that means I now have these beauties in flower. 
Vanmorgen stond ik vroeg op en er was prachtig licht, dus pakte in mijn camera en vond deze schat in onze tuin. Ik plantte de tulpenbollen veel te laat, maar dat betekent dat ik nu deze schoonheden in bloei heb.

A Creative Day

My health is not doing what it is supposed to be doing at the moment and I'm taking it very easy since I became unwell on Friday.
Mijn gezondheid doet niet echt wat hij zou moeten doen op het moment en ik doe heel rustig aan sinds ik vrijdag niet goed werd. 

My sister had to take over my 'duties' of taking my Mum to the hospital today (thank you dear Sis!) so that gave me time to relax and when I'm relaxing, my creative mojo wakes up.
Mijn zus moest mijn 'dienst' overnemen om vandaag met Mam naar het ziekenhuis te gaan (dank je wel, lieve zus!), en dat gaf me meer tijd om te ontspannen. En als ik ga ontspannen, wordt mijn creativiteit wakker.

First I had a little photo session in the garden. The dew drops were so beautiful again this morning.
Eerst had ik een kleine fotosessie in de tuin. De dauwdruppeltjes waren weer zo mooi vanmorgen. 

Scraps like these (thank you, Mum!) are heaven for a quilter working on Dear Jane. It has lots of different squares.
Stofresten zoals deze (dank je wel Mam) zijn natuurlijk geweldig voor een quilter die aan Dear Jane werkt. Het heeft heel veel verschillende vierkantjes. 

The first DJ block that came from this little heap of scraps is this pretty one that I stitched a few days back, and I have two more in the works coming from that same fabric. 
Het eerste DJ-blokje dat gemaakt werd van dit hoopje restjes was dit mooie blokje dat ik van de week heb gemaakt, en ik heb er nog twee klaar liggen uit die stof.

I prepared a few more Dear Jane blocks from fabrics coming from my other projects.
Ik heb ook nog meer Dear Jane blokjes gemaakt van stoffen uit mijn andere projecten. 


And lastly, I felt like painting and wanted to try something new. I normally sketch my water colours and paint from a photograph or from memory. And I have never painted flowers before, except for a few tries a few years back.
En als laatste had ik zin om te schilderen en wilde iets nieuws proberen. Ik schets normaal mijn aquarellen voor ik begin met schilderen, en schilder aan de hand van een foto of uit geheugen. En ik heb nog nooit bloemen geschilderd, behalve een paar pogingen een paar jaar geleden.

The weather was lovely this afternoon, and I spent an hour in the garden, painting this pansy which I picked in our garden. I started in the middle and worked my way out.
I'm quite happy with my first try. To be continued...
Het was vanmiddag heerlijk weer en ik heb een uurtje in de tuin dit viooltje geschilderd dat ik in onze tuin had geplukt. Ik begon in het midden en werkte naar buiten toe. 
Ik ben best tevreden over de eerste poging. Wordt vervolgd...

My passions are keeping me sane whilst my doctor is trying to figure out what is going on.
Mijn passies houden me op de been terwijl mijn huisarts probeert uit te zoeken wat er aan de hand is.

My Dear Jane & Water Colour Paintings of Harris & Skye

I arrived safely back home yesterday afternoon, after two lovely weeks in Scotland.
We spent a week on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides, in this lovely holiday cottage:

Ik ben gisteren veilig teruggekomen, na twee heerlijke weken in Schotland. 
We hebben een week doorgebracht op het eiland Harris, in de Buiten Hebriden, in dit leuke vakantiehuis:  

The other week we spent on Skye, where my friend lives.

De andere week brachten we op Skye door, waar mijn vriendin woont. 

Exciting news, I started my own Dear Jane project. Every self-respecting quilter appears to have done one ;o)) so now I'm starting mine. I have three little blocks finished:

Spannend nieuws! Ik ben begonnen aan mijn eigen Dear Jane. Iedere zichzelf respecterende quilter (;o)) lijkt er een te hebben gemaakt, dus nu begin ik aan de mijne. Ik heb drie kleine blokjes afgemaakt: 

The colours I chose are burgundy and dusky pinks, with different cream backgrounds. I'm not stitching them in any particular order. This is A7, part of the burgundy ones.

De kleuren die ik gekozen heb zijn bordeaux en zachtroze, met verschillende crème achtergrondjes. Ik maak ze niet op volgorde. Dit is A7, een van de bordeaux-blokjes.

A8 which will be next door to it, a burgundy and cream one.

A8, die ernaast zal komen, een bordeaux met crème blokje. 

B3, one on the second row, in dusky pink and cream.

B3, eentje van de tweede rij, in zachtroze en crème. 

I also painted (at last!) and got three watercolours done whilst I was away. They might still need a bit of tweaking with pastels, but I will have a think before I do that. It was almost a year since I had last painted:

En ik heb ook (eindelijk!) weer geschilderd, en drie aquarels gemaakt terwijl ik weg was. Er moet misschien nog wel iets aan gedaan worden met pastelkrijt, maar daar denk ik eerst nog even over na. Het was bijna een jaar geleden dat ik voor het laatst geschilderd had.

And I just had to share this picture with you, of a sunset on our favourite beach on the Isle of Harris: Luskentyre. Such mind-blowing beauty. I just admired and absorbed.

Ik moest gewoon deze foto met jullie delen, van een prachtige zonsondergang op ons lievelingsstrand op het eiland Harris: Luskentyre. Overweldigende schoonheid die ik alleen maar kon bewonderen en in mij opnemen.

I think I will wait for my next painting tuition to attempt to paint this in watercolour.

Ik denk dat ik maar wacht tot mijn volgende schilderles voor ik me hier aan waag.

Birthday & Watercolour

On Friday it was my birthday. I spent the day with my parents, who gave me these pretty violets. 

Vrijdag was het mijn verjaardag. Ik heb de dag doorgebracht bij mijn ouders, die deze schattige bosviooltjes voor me kochten.

My Mum-in-law gave me three of these pretty vases with pink roses. 

Mijn schoonmoeder gaf me drie van deze mooie vaasjes met roze rozen.

And my niece chose these pretty pink tulips for me. You would think I like pink! :o) 

En mijn nichtje zocht deze mooie roze tulpen voor me uit. Je zou bijna denken dat ik van roze hou! :o)

Marcel gave me private painting tuition. I spent all day yesterday painting the above watercolour at my second class of the series.

Van Marcel kreeg ik schilderlessen. Ik heb gisteren de hele dag tijdens de tweede les gewerkt aan de bovenstaande aquarel.

On the stitching front, I am still working on part 3 of QuiltMeClub 2013.

Op het handwerkvlak werk ik nog steeds aan deel 3 van QuiltMeClub 2013.

Quilt Me Club 2013 & Watercolours

As promised, I'm back with two of the watercolours I painted whilst in Scotland. Both were painted from memory. I normally paint from (my own) photographs.

Zoals beloofd laat ik jullie twee aquarellen zien die ik heb geschilderd terwijl ik in Schotland was. Beide werden uit mijn hoofd geschilderd. Normaal schilder ik met behulp van (mijn eigen) foto's.

This little seascape measures about 20 x 29 cm. Marcel liked it so much when I came back home, that it will apparently end up hanging in our living room, together with the above landscape. Yay! I guess I had better get them framed. I will have more painting tuition soon, to keep the mojo going.

Dit kleine 'zeeschapje' meet ongeveer 20 x 29 cm. Marcel vond hem zo mooi toen ik weer thuis kwam, dat hij in onze woonkamer mag hangen, samen met het bovenstaande landschap. Joepie! Ik kan ze dus maar beter laten inlijsten. Binnenkort heb ik weer aquarel-les, om de 'mojo' gaande te houden,

Amazingly, I didn't stitch at all whilst in Scotland. My painting mojo came back big time and I took advantage of it. I did have several stitchy projects in my luggage and they never got unpacked.

After coming home, I completed the second applique block for Quilt Me Club 2013 part 2 by Nataliejo of l'Atelier Perdu. 

Verbazingwekkend genoeg heb ik in Schotland helemaal niet gehandwerkt. Mijn schilder-mojo werd opeens heel actief en daar heb ik gebruik van gemaakt. Ik had een aantal handwerkprojecten bij me, maar die heb ik niet eens uitgepakt. 

Na mijn thuiskomst heb ik het tweede applique-blok voor Quilt Me Club 2013 deel 2 van Nataliejo van l'Atelier Perdu afgemaakt. 

Last week, part 3 arrived and the first block is finished. I still have another applique block and two pieced blocks to work on this month.

Vorige week kwam deel 3 en het eerste blok is af. Ik moet nog een applique-blok maken en twee patchworkblokken.
