Fernhill is Done!

On this special date 12-12-12, I have a completed Fernhill top to show you. I finished the last part yesterday afternoon. This is the 2012 Button Club BOM by Lynette Anderson.

Op deze speciale datum 12-12-12 kan ik jullie mijn Fernhill top laten zien die af is. Het laatste deel heb ik gistermiddag afgemaakt. Dit is het Button Club blok van de maand van Lynette Anderson voor 2012.

On Saturday I basted all the layers for my In Full Bloom quilt. Now I need to find out how to quilt!

Zaterdag heb ik alle lagen van In Full Bloom geregen. Nu moet ik uitzoeken hoe ik moet doorquilten!


And in the mean time I am working on block 5 of Floral Bouquet Quilt by Yoko Saito. This block is coming along nicely. It has lots of fiddly applique pieces and three pieced borders.

En ondertussen werk ik aan blok 5 van Floral Bouquet Quilt van Yoko Saito. Het blok schiet goed op. Het heeft veel priegelige onderdelen die geappliqueerd worden en drie patchworkranden.

In Full Bloom Top & Red Home

The In Full Bloom quilt top is finally done! Entirely pieced and stitched by hand using the recommended threads and fabrics. The design is by Lynette Anderson.

Eindelijk is de In Full Bloom quilt top af! Helemaal met de hand in elkaar gezet en geborduurd, gebruik makend van de aanbevolen draadjes en stofjes. Het ontwerp is van Lynette Anderson. 

And of course this asked for a new start! The minute I saw the Red Home project by Natalie Bird I fell in love with it. Yesterday I went fabric shopping and this will be my new start.

En natuurlijk vroeg dit om een nieuw project! Zodra ik Red Home van Natalie Bird voor het eerst zag, was ik er verliefd op. Gisteren ben ik stofjes gaan uitzoeken bij mijn favoriete quiltwinkel Samsara in Lisse.

The burgundy polka dot is my outer border, the pink flowered fabric my narrow inner border.

De bordeaux rode stof met crème stippen is mijn buitenrand en de roze bloemen zijn de smalle binnenrand.

Elvis is a happy bunny once more. He has taken up residence in the scratching castle which used to be Minty's favorite snoozing place.

Elvis is een blije jongen. Hij heeft het krabkasteel ingenomen, dat altijd het favoriete slaapplekje van Minty was. 






Thank for all your kind and caring words after we lost our furry girl. We miss her dreadfully, but we take some consolation from the knowledge that she is no longer suffering.

Bedankt voor alle aardige berichtjes nadat we ons poezenmeisje hebben verloren. We missen haar vreselijk maar troosten ons met de gedachte dat ze niet meer hoeft te lijden. 

QuiltAid2011, In Full Bloom, and Luna

First of all, major congratulations go out to my parents, who are celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary today.

Allereerst gaan mijn felicitaties naar mijn ouders die vandaag hun 54e trouwdag vieren.


On Thursday postie brought my finishing kit for the QuiltAid2011 project as well as the long-awaited Presencia threads. Pretty, aren't they?

Donderdag bracht de postbode mijn kit for het afwerken van de QuiltAid2011 quilt en ook de lang-verwachte Presencia garens. Mooi zijn ze hè?


Of course I had to try them out on the block I had already prepared a while back. This is the block which Natalie Bird of The Birdhouse designed for this charity project.


En natuurlijk moest ik de garens gelijk proberen op het blokje dat ik een tijdje geleden al had voorbereid. Dit is het blokje dat Natalie Bird van The Birdhouse heeft ontworpen voor dit liefdadigheidsproject.

I also completed the fifth stitchery for In Full Bloom by Lynette Anderson, as well as the patchwork blocks for the second row of this project. I now have the two rows attached and can start the first block of the third row.

Ik heb ook de vijfde stichery afgemaakt voor In Full Bloom van Lynette Anderson, en ook de patchwork blokjes voor de tweede rij van dit project. Ik heb de twee rijen aan elkaar gezet en kan nu beginnen met het eerste blokje van de derde rij.

It has been a while since I showed you a picture of our little furry girl Luna. She is still very partial to the toy she received when she was very brave at the vet's in November for her check-up and boosters.

Het is een tijdje geleden dat ik jullie een foto liet zien van ons kleine harige meisje. Ze is nog steeds erg gehecht aan het speeltje dat ze in november kreeg toen ze erg dapper was bij de dierenarts tijdens haar jaarlijkse controle en prikken.

Snow, A Surprise, and In Full Bloom

Yesterday afternoon, we had lots of snowfall and within about two hours, our garden was covered in about 10 cm of snow!

Gistermiddag is er veel sneeuw gevallen en binnen twee uur was onze tuin bedekt in een laag sneeuw van ongeveer 10 cm!

This afternoon the doorbell rang and postie brought a surprise parcel from my friend Michele from the USA:

Vanmiddag ging de bel en de postbode bracht een verrassingspakje van mijn vriendin Michele uit Amerika:

It contained the pretty fabric in the background which is perfect for my Berries and Bluebirds project, pretty scissors with two of my favourite things: pink and polka dots, a very cute cupcake, the bicones for Herbularius, Karen Kay Buckley's "Perfect Circles", which is very aptly named as you can make perfect applique circles using these templates. And last but not least a beautiful ornament by Jim Shore. The angel is working on a quilt!

This afternoon I also completed the fourth stitchery for In Full Bloom by Lynette Anderson. You can probably still see the trickmarker marks which will fade with time.

Vanmiddag heb ik ook de vierde stitchery voor In Full Bloom van Lynette Anderson afgemaakt. Je kunt waarschijnlijk de streepjes gemaakt met een verdwijnpen zien, die vanzelf zullen weggaan.

These little stitcheries are so much fun to work on. I just pick them up whenever I have a bit of time on my hands, but not enough time to get settled with a bigger project.

There is one more stitchery to do for the row I'm working on, as well as two patchwork blocks.

Deze kleine stitcheries zijn erg leuk om aan te werken. Als ik even tijd heb ga ik eraan verder, als ik niet genoeg tijd heb om er echt voor te gaan zitten met een groter project.

Er moet nog een stitchery gemaakt worden voor de rij waar ik nu aan werk, en ook twee patchwork tussenblokjes.

Thanks for all your lovely comments on my previous post. The catfish babies are thriving on a mix of crushed algae tablets and cucumber. Of course we will not keep them all if they make it to adulthood. Our aquarium is quite big, but not *that* big. Catfish are quite territorial, so even with the four adults we have, there are tiffs going on.

Bedankt voor jullie leuke berichtjes op mijn vorige blogje. De algeneterbaby's doen het prima op fijngemaakte algenetertabletten en komkommer. Natuurlijk kunnen we ze niet allemaal houden als ze het gaan redden. Ons aquarium is best groot, maar niet *zo* groot. Algeneters zijn best territoriaal en zelfs de vier volwassen vissen hebben al regelmatig ruzie.

And trying to keep no fewer than 40 bristlenose catfish babies alive. They are tiny, about 15 mm when they hatched last week.

En het in leven houden van niet minder dan 40 algeneter-baby's. Ze zijn piepklein, ongeveer 15 mm toen ze uit het ei kwamen.

We have three different versions of these catfish (ancistrus), so we're not sure who fathered these babies, but the orange male seems to be guarding the baby fish rather often.

We hebben drie verschillende algeneters (ancistrus), dus we weten niet welke de vader is, maar het oranje mannetje lijkt nogal vaak de visjes te bewaken.

In Full Bloom Progress

The second stitchery for In Full Bloom by Lynette Anderson is finished. These stitcheries are so much fun to work on. I started the third one last night, with a garden bench, a tree and hollyhocks. Very cute!

De tweede stitchery voor In Full Bloom van Lynette Anderson is klaar. Deze stitcheries zijn zo leuk om te maken. Ik ben gisteravond begonnen met de derde stitchery, met een tuinbank, een boom en stokrozen. Een schatje!

Peacock Mandala & In Full Bloom

The first stitchery circle for Lynette Anderson's In Full Bloom is done. I'm not quite happy with how it sits on the background fabric. I use a stabiliser for my stitcheries and this makes forming perfect circles difficult.

De eerste stitchery for In Full Bloom van Lynette Anderson is klaar. Ik ben niet zo tevreden over hoe het rondje op de achtergrond zit. Ik gebruik vlieseline om de stitcherystof te verstevigen en dit maakt het moeilijk om het mooi rond te krijgen.




For Peacock Mandala I'm combining parts 3 and 4. Since part 4 contains quite a lot of 'boring' filling in, I have decided to complete each side before I move on to the next, so the first set of beautiful peacocks will be next.

Voor Peacock Mandala combineer ik deel 3 en 4. Omdat deel 4 best veel 'saai' invulwerk bevat, heb ik besloten iedere kant af te maken voor ik aan de volgende begin, dus het volgende deel bevat de twee prachtige pauwen.

Our furry boy was being his helpful self again. My box of stitching materials is just so interesting!

Onze harige jongen was weer erg behulpzaam. Hij vindt mijn doosje met handwerkspullen zo interessant!

WOW: Peacock Mandala Revisited

It is Wednesday once more, time for WOW: WIPs on Wednesdays over on Esther Aliu's blog.

Het is weer woensdag, tijd voor WOW: WIPs op Woensdag op het blog van Esther Aliu.

Maybe the Chatelaine addicts will recognise this beauty: Peacock Mandala Garden by Chatelaine (Martina Rosenberg). It is Mystery XIII running in 2010.
My cross stitching mojo suddenly surfaced after having seen several beautiful Chatelaines on other blogs, and I gave in and dug out this mandala. I had part 1 finished, and part 2 was already started. Now part 2 is completed and I'm about to start part 3.

Misschien herkennen de Chatelaine-verslaafden dit mooie project wel: Peacock Mandala Garden ontworpen door Chatelaine (Martina Rosenberg). Het is Mystery XIII uit 2010.
Ik had opeens weer zin om te gaan borduren toen ik op blogs prachtige Chatelaines zag. Dus heb ik deze mandala opgezocht. Deel 1 was al klaar en ik was al begonnen met deel 2. Dat is nu klaar en nu ga ik beginnen met deel 3.

My Cosmo threads for In Full Bloom by Lynette Anderson arrived today in the post. This means I can start the stitcheries. These beautiful colours are used, as well as several DMC threads which complement the fabrics which were also designed by Lynette beautifully.

De Cosmo-garens voor In Full Bloom van Lynette Anderson zaten vanmiddag bij de post. Deze prachtige kleuren worden gebruikt, alsmede een paar DMC kleuren die mooi passen bij de stoffen die ook zijn ontworpen door Lynette.

I have never used Cosmo threads before, but I have been told they work really well for stitcheries. I will keep you posted!

Ik heb nog nooit met Cosmo-garens geborduurd, maar ik heb gehoord dat het heel fijn werkt voor stitcheries. Ik hou jullie op de hoogte!

Christmas Present & Berries and Bluebirds

Postie finally pushed my Christmas present from Marcel through our letter box this afternoon. The pattern and kit for Lynette Anderson's In Full Bloom. Those fabrics are so gorgeous in person! And the patterns look like fun. I ordered the Cosmo threads I need this afternoon, so hopefully they will arrive soon.

De postbode bracht vanmiddag eindelijk mijn kerstcadeau van Marcel: het patroon en de kit voor In Full Bloom van Lynette Anderson. De stoffen zijn prachtig in het echt en de patronen lijken me leuk om te maken. Ik heb vanmiddag de Cosmo-draadjes besteld die ik nodig heb. Hopelijk komen ze snel hier aan.

And here is my progress on Berries and Bluebirds block 3, by Gail Pan. A tall and narrow block which is fun to stitch. I think I have finally found my mojo with this project, whilst stitching this block.

En hier zien jullie hoever ik ben gekomen met blok 3 van Berries and Bluebirds van Gail Pan. Een small en hoog blok dat erg leuk is om te maken. Ik geloof dat ik eindelijk mijn draai heb gevonden met dit project, terwijl ik werkte aan dit blok.



I forgot to mention in my previous post that we celebrated Kruimel's third birthday on the 28th of December. He wasn't very cooperative when it came to having his picture taken with three 'candles'.

In mijn vorige blogje vergat ik te melden dat we in december de derde verjaardag van Kruimel hebben gevierd, op de 28e. Hij werkte niet erg mee toen ik hem op de foto wilde zetten met drie 'kaarsjes'.


When Kruimel first arrived at our house almost three years ago, Elvis didn't take to him at all.
Now, three years later, with Elvis on a special diet called 'Calm' by Royal Canin, and using a Feliway plug which emits feromones, our boys seem to be hitting it off much better.

Toen Kruimel bijna drie jaar geleden bij ons kwam wonen, vond Elvis hem helemaal niet leuk. Nu, drie jaar later, met Elvis op een speciaal dieet van Royal Canin 'Calm' en het gebruik van een Feliway-stekker die kattenferomoon afscheidt, gaat het steeds beter tussen onze jongens.

They look like they are practising synchronised sleeping below. Elvis needs to work in his tail!

Het lijkt wel of ze oefenen om synchroon te slapen. Elvis moet nog een beetje oefenen met zijn staart!


Back to work on Berries and Bluebirds 3, so that I can hopefully show you my third block soon.

Nu ga ik gauw weer verder met Berries and Bluebirds 3, zodat ik jullie hopelijk snel mijn blok kan laten zien.
