1865 Passion Sampler

When I discovered this sampler by France A. of Passion Patchwork I loved it, but managed to hold off.
Last week I was reminded by someone on Facebook and just had to start.
Like a good girl, I started with block 1 and then they became rather random, depending on which fabrics I could combine for each block. Three blocks are finished and I'm working on the next one, in between sorting and packing.

Toen ik voor het eerst deze sampler van France A.  van Passion Patchwork zag was ik er weg van, maar toen lukte het me om niet gelijk te beginnen.
Vorige week herinnerde iemand op Facebook me eraan en ik moest gewoon gelijk beginnen.
Ik begon braaf aan blok 1 maar daarna werden ze nogal lukraak gekozen, afhankelijk van welke stofjes ik kon combineren voor ieder blok. Er zijn drie blokken klaar en ik werk aan de vierde, tussen het uitzoeken en inpakken door.

The original blocks by France A are in browns, blues and pinks/reds, and I decided to stick with that colour palette as that was what I fell in love with. 
De oorspronkelijke blokken van France A zijn bruin met blauw en roze/rood. Ik besloot die kleuren aan te houden omdat dat was waar ik verliefd op was geworden.

 The garden is looking lovely with lots of flowers and insects. I caught a few on camera.
De tuin ziet er mooi uit met veel bloemen en insecten. Ik heb er een paar op mijn camera gevangen.

The buddleja are almost in flower and I'm hoping the butterflies will come and visit soon.
De vlinderstruiken bloeien bijna en ik hoop dat we bezoek krijgen van vlinders.

Back to work now. We have a house to sell.
Nu aan het werk. We hebben een huis dat verkocht moet worden.

Rain in Holland: Photography

It has been raining a lot in Holland recently, and I took advantage of it.
Het heeft de afgelopen weken veel geregend, en ik heb er dankbaar gebruik van gemaakt.

Antique Wedding Sampler & Stonefields

This title appears to have been used quite a lot recently. They are my focus-projects at the moment, with Mountmellick waiting patiently in the wings.
Deze titel komt best vaak voor de laatste tijd. De projecten waar ik momenteel aan werk, met Mountmellick geduldig wachtend in de coulissen. 

I finished another block for Antique Wedding Sampler, number 5:
Ik heb weer een blok af van Antique Wedding Sampler, nummer 5: 

I love the little pond or whatever it is in the centre, comprising of three layers of applique.
Ik vind he vijvertje zo leuk, of wat het ook is, met drie laagjes applique. 

Now I'm working on block number 14, which involves a pieced ring. I do enjoy making those.
Nu werk ik aan blok 14, met een patchwork ring. Die vind ik leuk om te maken. 

The ring has since been finished and it is now thread-basted on my background fabric, waiting to be appliqued.
Onder tussen is de ring af en zit hij geregen op de achtergrondstof, wachtend om te worden geappliqueerd. 


For Stonefields only one simple little block got done, but I do love how the fabrics work together.
Voor Stonefields heb ik maar één eenvoudig blokje gemaakt, maar ik vind het mooi hoe de stoffen bij elkaar passen. 

This block is called 'The Hankerchief' and it is number 57. We are making three of these blocks.
Dit blokje heet 'De zakdoek' en het is nummer 57. We maken drie van deze blokjes. 

This doesn't mean I have completed 57 blocks. In fact, there are only 32 so far.
I took this (lousy) picture of all of them together few days back.
Dat betekent niet dat ik 57 blokjes af heb. Het zijn er 32 tot nu toe. 
Ik heb van de week deze (matige) foto gemaakt van alle blokjes bij elkaar. 

We've had some lovely weather over the past days and I took this picture of a snowdrop a few days ago.
We hebben de laatste dagen mooi weer gehad en ik heb deze foto gemaakt van een sneeuwklokje. 

Did you know there are over 2000 varieties of snowdrops? Pretty amazing for such a little pretty flower.
Wist je dat er meer dan 2000 soorten sneeuwklokjes zijn? Best wel bijzonder voor zo'n mooi klein bloemetje.

WOW: Antique Wedding Sampler Progress

I completed two more blocks for Antique Wedding Sampler by Di Ford, and a third is well on its way to completion.
Ik heb weer twee blokken voor Antique Wedding Sampler van Di Ford afgemaakt, en een derde is al goed op weg. 

First block 21
Eerst blok 21

I'm not entirely happy with the cream shape in the middle and will probably start over with that part.
Ik ben niet helemaal tevreden over het crème middenstukje en dat ga ik waarschijnlijk wel opnieuw doen.

Those stars were rather fiddly. I probably didn't piece them in the right sequence. I'm mostly self-taught, so just do what I think is the best possible way.
De sterren waren behoorlijk priegelig. Ik heb ze waarschijnlijk niet op de handigste manier in elkaar gezet. Maar omdat ik grotendeels autodidact ben, doe ik gewoon wat me het handigste lijkt. 


And then I finished block 9
En toen heb ik blok 9 afgemaakt

Of course I couldn't have done it without my little helper.
En natuurlijk was me dat nooit gelukt zonder mijn hulpje. 

This morning we finally had some sunshine and I took a few photos of the Helebores. They are helleborus Niger.
Vanmorgen hadden we eindelijk zon en heb ik een paar foto's van de helleborus (kerstroos) gemaakt. Dit is Helleborus Niger. 

It had rained and then the sun came out, leaving me with these pretty droplets to play with.
Het had geregend en toen ging de zon schijnen, waardoor ik leuk met de druppeltjes en het mooie licht kon spelen.

A Stonefields Tulip & Antique Wedding Sampler

Still working away on Stonefields, trying to catch up on the blocks that still need doing before the new batch arrives in a few days' time.
Ik werk nog steeds aan Stonefields en probeer de blokjes in te halen die nog niet af zijn voor het volgende deel over een paar dagen komt.

When I was making block 45 with the butterflies in my previous post, I realised the pink fabric was perfect for my Antique Wedding Sampler by Di Ford. I searched the book for the perfect block to use it in. That was block 19, which I completed a few days ago.
Toen ik blok 45 met de vlinders maakte in mijn vorige blogje, besefte ik dat de roze stof perfect zou zijn voor mijn Antique Wedding Sampler van Di Ford.  Ik zocht in het boek naar het perfecte book om het te gebruiken. Dat werd blok 19, dat ik een paar dagen geleden afgemaakt heb.

I'm now working on block 21.
Nu werk ik aan blok 21. 


The garden is slowly coming back to life and the helleborus Niger is flowering beautifully.
De tuin komt weer langzaam tot leven en de helleborus Niger bloeit prachtig. 

This plant is also called "Christmas Rose" which tells you it likes to flower in winter.
Deze plant heet ook "Kerstroos" en de naam zegt al dat hij graag in de winter bloeit.

I noticed in the picture that the hydrangea which is growing next to it is budding, so I need to start thinking about pruning already. Nature is very early this year.
Op de foto viel me op dat de hortensia die ernaast groeit al aan het uitlopen is, en ik moet nu al gaan denken aan snoeien. De natuur is heel vroeg dit jaar.

Stonefields part 2 continued

Four new blocks for Stonefields part 2 are finished and two more in the works.
Vier nieuwe blokjes voor Stonefields deel 2 zijn klaar en met twee ben ik nog bezig. 

First the third "O is for Oscar" block.
Dit is het derde "O is voor Oscar" blokje.

I just love that fabric with nostalgic images.
Ik ben helemaal weg van de stof met poezieplaatjes. 

 
The "Star in a Star"is done too. I'm not entirely happy with it, so will probably redo the cream star and the centre circle at some point.
De "Star in a Star"is ook klaar. Ik ben niet helemaal tevreden over dit blokje, en zal waarschijnlijk de crème ster en het rondje overdoen. 

The two "Oscillateurs" are also completed.
De twee "Oscillateurs" zijn nu ook helemaal klaar. 

And now I'm working on the two "Bordered 3/8 inch Hexagons". Just the little hexagon flowers to make. The choices of fabrics are surprisingly difficult.
En nu ben ik bezig met de twee "Bordered 3/8 inch Hexagons". Ik moet alleen nog de kleine hexagonbloemen. De stofkeuze voor die hexjes is verrassend lastig! 

Part 6 of Mountmellick has been published and I will be spending a lot of time on that project to hopefully get some progress on it done. Since I'm working on all the parts simultaneously, it isn't going very fast, but some point it should suddenly be done! That's the theory anyway ;o)
Deel 6 van Mountmellick is ook uit en ik zal veel tijd besteden aan dat project en hopelijk flinke voortgang boeken. Omdat ik aan alle delen tegelijk werk, lijkt het alsof het niet opschiet, maar opeens zal het helemaal klaar zijn. Dat is althans het plan ;o) 

The weather is still too hot for the time of the year, and our Buddleja Dreaming Lavender is still in flower. It is upposed to flower from June till September. Dead-heading really does work for these plants.
Het weer is nog steeds te mooi voor de tijd van het jaar en onze vlinderstruik Buddleja Dreaming Lavender bloeit nog steeds. Hij bloeit normaal gesproken van juni tot en met September. Het helpt echt om de dode bloemen eruit te knippen.

Antique Wedding Sampler Progress

I completed another block of Antique Wedding Sampler, block 3.
After making a mistake with the triangles, I got help from Hanneke who sent me more fabric. Thank you!

Ik heb weer een blok af van Antique Wedding Sampler, blok 3. 
Nadat ik een fout had gemaakt met de driehoeken, kreeg ik hulp van Hanneke, die me meer stof stuurde. Dank je wel! 

I started block 4, which has five pieced stars, a big one in the centre and four small ones in the corners.

Ik ben gelijk begonnen aan blok 4, die vijf patchworksterren heeft, een grote in het midden en vier kleintjes op de hoeken. 

The first of the small stars, measuring 3,5 inches. Since yesterday evening, they are all finished.

Het eerste kleine sterretje, met een afmeting van ongeveer 7,5 cm. Sinds gisteravond zijn ze allevier af. 


Postie brought me a parcel from Jane, containing very handy plastic bags in three sizes to keep my projects organized, lovely fabrics for my Dear Jane, and last but not least a card of a Scottish Highland 'Coo'. Thank you, Jane!

De postbode bracht een pakje van Jane, met handige zakjes in drie maten om mijn projecten op orde te houden, mooie stofjes voor mijn Dear Jane en een kaart van een Schotse Highland 'Coo'. Dank je wel, Jane!
 

Summer has gone and has been replaced by a rather chilly Autumn. Apparently we are in for a bit more Indian Summer over the weekend, so hopefully I will be able to catch some more creatures on camera.

De zomer is voorbij en is vervangen door een behoorlijk kille herfst. Maar we krijgen nog een plukje nazomerweer in het weekend, dus hopelijk kan ik nog wat beestjes op de camera vangen.

Antique Wedding Sampler Progress

I'm still captivated by Antique Wedding Sampler by Di Ford. It is such a beautiful design. When I saw it in Veldhoven last year, I knew I would have to make that beautiful quilt myself.

Ik ben nog steeds in de ban van Antique Wedding Sampler van Di Ford. Wat is het toch een prachtig ontwerp. Toen ik hem vorig jaar mei in Veldhoven zag hangen, wist ik al dat ik die prachtige quilt zeker wilde maken. 

It was hanging behind Di Ford when she autographed my book.

Hij hing achter Di Ford, toen ze mijn boek signeerde.



In the mean time I have completed block 20. 
Ondertussen heb ik blok 20 helemaal af.

The flower is at an angle, because the blocks are presented 'on point' in the quilt. 
De blokken komen op de punt in de quilt, vandaar dat de bloem er nu scheef uitziet. 


I'm also trying to find the perfect fabric for the star in the centre of block 2. The diamonds are tiny! And they are also fussy cut, would you believe. 
Ik ben ook op zoek naar het perfecte stofje voor het sterretje in het midden van blok 2. Die wiebertjes zijn zo klein! En ze worden ook nog ge-fussy-cut.

A 1 pence piece on the left, and a 5 eurocent on the right.
Links een 1 pence muntstuk, rechts 5 eurocent. 

By the way, this is my block 2, in case you were wondering where that star needs to go.
Dit is trouwens mijn blok 2, mochten jullie niet meer weten waar dat sterretje moet komen 

In the mean time I am working on choosing fabrics for, and piecing, block 3.
En ondertussen ben ik bezig met het kiezen van stoffen en in elkaar zetten van blok 3 

And looking for that perfect sashing. It could well be this one. 
En op zoek naar de perfecte sashing. Dit zou hem wel eens kunnen worden.

De insecten in de tuin zijn ook nog steeds actief en ik zit er iedere dag met de camera achteraan.
The insects in the garden are still active too, and I am following them with my camera every day. 

Yesterday this dragonfly landed on my little greenhouse. Unfortunately she didn't want to pose in a nicer place, but at least she was willing to to pose. Most dragonflies are very shy. 
Gisteren landde deze libel op de rand van het tuinkasje. Helaas wilde ze niet op een mooier plekje gaan zitten, maar ze wilde wel even voor me poseren. De meeste libellen zijn erg schuw.

And the Willow Emerald dragonflies are also still around. A few days ago she was wearing a pretty skirt.
En de houtpanserjuffers zijn er ook nog steeds. Van de week had ze een mooi rokje aan.

 A green shieldbug is destroying my Japanese anemones.
 Een groene stinkwants is mijn Japanse anemoon aan het slopen 

This is the same type of shieldbug, but at a later stage in its life. 
Dit is dezelfde soort wants, maar dan in een later stadium van zijn leven.
