Passion Sampler & Houses

Again I have to apologize. It has been ages since I wrote anything here.
Ik moet me alweer verontschuldigen. Het is erg lang geleden sinds ik een blogje heb geschreven. 

We are in the process of moving house. In the mean time we have sold our current home, within two weeks, and we still cannot quite believe it.
We zijn aan het verhuizen, althans bijna. En in de tussentijd hebben we ons huidige huis verkocht, binnen twee weken. We kunnen het nog niet echt geloven. 

We only had to do six viewings, thankfully as I really hated them. I had to lock the cats in the cat enclosure outside (which they hated) and leave our home after a lot of hard work, to let the estate agent show our home to interested parties.
We hoefden maar zes bezichtigingen te doen, gelukkig, want ik vond het vreselijk. Ik moest de katten opsluiten in de buitenren (wat zij niet leuk vinden) en na hard werken ons huis overlaten aan de makelaar, die het liet zien aan geïnteresseerden.

So busy times ahead. I'm organizing all the things that need doing. Most of our stuff has already been packed and in storage, as we needed to 'depersonalize' our home, to look like this:
Er komen drukke tijden aan. Ik ben bezig alles te regelen dat voor een verhuizing nodig is. Onze spullen zijn grotendeels ingepakt en opgeslagen, omdat we ons huis moesten 'depersonaliseren', zodat het er zo uit kwam te zien:

We will sign the deeds for our new home on October 1st, and move there (with the minimum of stuff, and the cats) on the 2nd. Anything that will fit in two cars and a trailer :) Must not forget to take a picture of that!
Op 1 oktober tekenen we de overdrachtsakte voor ons nieuwe huis en op 2 oktober gaan we met een soort campinguitrusting en de katten naar het nieuwe huis. Alles wat in twee auto's en een aanhanger past. Ik moet niet vergeten daar een foto van te maken! 

Our home is at 90 minutes from here, and driving there and back every day to start DIY and renovations is a waste of time. And we just want to finally BE there. We have been waiting for five months since we first saw it and said 'yes'.
Ons nieuwe huis is anderhalf uur rijden van hier, in de Betuwe, en elke dag op en neer rijden om te gaan klussen en renoveren is zonder van de tijd. En we willen er gewoon EINDELIJK zijn! We wachten al vijf maanden sinds we het voor het eerst zagen, en 'ja' zeiden. 

That gives us a month to get the main rooms ready for the real move, and for handing over the house to the new owners. More deeds to sign.
We hebben dan een maand om de belangrijkste ruimten klaar te krijgen voor de echte verhuizing, en om ons huis over te dragen aan de nieuwe eigenaren. Meer aktes om te tekenen. 

In between all that, I have been doing a bit of stitching. A block and hexagon flower for Stonefields:

We are so looking forward to being in the countryside. Counting the days until the move.

A Few Little Blocks

Since I told you about 'The Biggest WIP of Our Lives" in my previous post, we have been very busy packing and doing DIY to get the house ready for sale.
Sinds ik jullie in mijn vorige blogje heb verteld over het grootste project van ons leven, hebben we het erg druk gehad. Uitzoeken en inpakken en klussen om het huis klaar te maken voor verkoop.

Op deze foto laat Kruimel zien hoe ik me voel na weer een dag uitzoeken en inpakken.

I have done very little stitching, but managed a few blocks from the ones I had prepared for Scotland. And I'm still working on those. Thank goodness I had so much prepared.
Ik heb erg weinig kunnen handwerken, maar heb toch dankzij de voorbereide blokjes voor Schotland een paar blokjes kunnen maken. Gelukkig had ik best veel voorbereid.

The cream fabric with pink flowers is one of Mum's, which she gave me a while back.
40 little pieces in a 4 inch block! Very fiddly, but so much fun to make.
I have 32 blocks completed for Dear Jane, of 169.

De crème stof met roze bloemetjes is van Mam. Ze gaf me die stof een tijdje geleden. 
40 kleine stukjes in een 4 inch blokje. Erg priegelig, maar zo leuk om te maken. 
Ik heb nu 32 blokjes af, van de 169.

It was exactly 100 days until we officially own the new house. In exchange for two signatures (and some money ;) ) we will become the owners of our dream home. We are hoping to sell our current home before then.

Het was gisteren precies 100 dagen geleden tot we officieel eigenaar worden van ons 'nieuwe' huis. In ruil voor twee handtekeningen (en wat geld ;) ). We hopen voor die tijd ons huidige huis te verkopen. 

And on June 20th, Elvis celebrated his 10th birthday. We don't know exactly when he was born. A date was chosen for him by the vet, who checked him over just after we got him from the shelter at about 12 weeks old. 

This photograph is not very sharp, but he looks adorable in it. A few days after he arrived home.
Deze foto is niet heel scherp, maar hij staat er zo lief op. Het was een paar dagen nadat hij bij ons kwam wonen.

Stonefields Progress

I'm a bit 'stuck' with Antique Wedding Sampler (not sure where my current block is going) so I worked on Stonefields for a few days. Often when I take some time away from a project, it all falls into place.

Ik zit een beetje 'vast' met Antique Wedding Sampler (en weet niet zo goed wat ik met mijn huidige blok aan moet) dus heb ik een paar dagen aan Stonefields gewerkt. 

First I stitched two more Hankerchief blocks

Then part 6 arrived, and I stitched the first of three "The Perfection Syndrome" blocks (#63.

Can you tell I cannot wait for Spring to arrive?
Zie je dat ik niet kan wachten tot het voorjaar begint? 

Kruimel (Dutch for 'crumb) was being his cute self, asleep in Luna's pink basket. Quite becoming, don't you think?
Kruimel was van de week zijn schattige zelf, slapend in een roze mandje van Luna. Het staat hem wel, vind je niet?

This is the Antique Wedding Sampler block I'm struggling with, number 14. Not sure I'm happy with the colours and patterns. There is something not quite right.
Dit is het blok van Antque Wedding Sampler waar ik mee worstel. Het is nummer 14. Ik weet niet zeker of ik wel zo blij ben met de kleuren en de motiefjes.

So I'm letting it simmer for a bit.
Dus laat ik het een tijdje sudderen.

Antique Wedding Sampler & Stonefields

This title appears to have been used quite a lot recently. They are my focus-projects at the moment, with Mountmellick waiting patiently in the wings.
Deze titel komt best vaak voor de laatste tijd. De projecten waar ik momenteel aan werk, met Mountmellick geduldig wachtend in de coulissen. 

I finished another block for Antique Wedding Sampler, number 5:
Ik heb weer een blok af van Antique Wedding Sampler, nummer 5: 

I love the little pond or whatever it is in the centre, comprising of three layers of applique.
Ik vind he vijvertje zo leuk, of wat het ook is, met drie laagjes applique. 

Now I'm working on block number 14, which involves a pieced ring. I do enjoy making those.
Nu werk ik aan blok 14, met een patchwork ring. Die vind ik leuk om te maken. 

The ring has since been finished and it is now thread-basted on my background fabric, waiting to be appliqued.
Onder tussen is de ring af en zit hij geregen op de achtergrondstof, wachtend om te worden geappliqueerd. 


For Stonefields only one simple little block got done, but I do love how the fabrics work together.
Voor Stonefields heb ik maar één eenvoudig blokje gemaakt, maar ik vind het mooi hoe de stoffen bij elkaar passen. 

This block is called 'The Hankerchief' and it is number 57. We are making three of these blocks.
Dit blokje heet 'De zakdoek' en het is nummer 57. We maken drie van deze blokjes. 

This doesn't mean I have completed 57 blocks. In fact, there are only 32 so far.
I took this (lousy) picture of all of them together few days back.
Dat betekent niet dat ik 57 blokjes af heb. Het zijn er 32 tot nu toe. 
Ik heb van de week deze (matige) foto gemaakt van alle blokjes bij elkaar. 

We've had some lovely weather over the past days and I took this picture of a snowdrop a few days ago.
We hebben de laatste dagen mooi weer gehad en ik heb deze foto gemaakt van een sneeuwklokje. 

Did you know there are over 2000 varieties of snowdrops? Pretty amazing for such a little pretty flower.
Wist je dat er meer dan 2000 soorten sneeuwklokjes zijn? Best wel bijzonder voor zo'n mooi klein bloemetje.

A Stonefields Tulip & Antique Wedding Sampler

Still working away on Stonefields, trying to catch up on the blocks that still need doing before the new batch arrives in a few days' time.
Ik werk nog steeds aan Stonefields en probeer de blokjes in te halen die nog niet af zijn voor het volgende deel over een paar dagen komt.

When I was making block 45 with the butterflies in my previous post, I realised the pink fabric was perfect for my Antique Wedding Sampler by Di Ford. I searched the book for the perfect block to use it in. That was block 19, which I completed a few days ago.
Toen ik blok 45 met de vlinders maakte in mijn vorige blogje, besefte ik dat de roze stof perfect zou zijn voor mijn Antique Wedding Sampler van Di Ford.  Ik zocht in het boek naar het perfecte book om het te gebruiken. Dat werd blok 19, dat ik een paar dagen geleden afgemaakt heb.

I'm now working on block 21.
Nu werk ik aan blok 21. 


The garden is slowly coming back to life and the helleborus Niger is flowering beautifully.
De tuin komt weer langzaam tot leven en de helleborus Niger bloeit prachtig. 

This plant is also called "Christmas Rose" which tells you it likes to flower in winter.
Deze plant heet ook "Kerstroos" en de naam zegt al dat hij graag in de winter bloeit.

I noticed in the picture that the hydrangea which is growing next to it is budding, so I need to start thinking about pruning already. Nature is very early this year.
Op de foto viel me op dat de hortensia die ernaast groeit al aan het uitlopen is, en ik moet nu al gaan denken aan snoeien. De natuur is heel vroeg dit jaar.

Butterflies

Those who follow my blog probably realise by now that I love butterflies This summer I spent hours and hours following them around our garden to photograph them.
Diegenen die mijn blog volgen, beseffen denk ik nu zo ongeveer wel dat ik van vlinders hou. Deze zomer heb ik uren en uren doorgebracht met het volgen van de vlinders in onze tuin om ze op de foto te zetten. 

My Stonefields quilt already had a few butterflies, in one of the first blocks I stitched. One of the corner blocks.
Mijn Stonefields quilt had al wat vlinders, in een van de eerste blokken die ik maakte: een van de hoekblokken.

Two days ago I stitched block 45, the third "Mulhouse Magic" block
Twee dagen geleden maakte ik blokje 45, de derde "Mulhouse Magic"

...and added a hexagon flower using the same fabrics
...en daar kwam nog een hexagonbloem bij gemaakt van dezelfde stoffen. 

And postie brought a package from Australia, from Love Entwined's designer Esther Aliu. She is having a "Stash Sale" and I fell in love with this fabric, which would be perfect for my Love Entwined quilt. Thank you Esther!
En de postbode bracht een pakje uit Australië, van de ontwerpster van Love Entwined Esther Aliu. Ze verkoopt momenteel een aantal van haar stoffen en ik werd verliefd op deze, die perfect is voor mijn Love Entwined. Bedankt Esther!

I cannot wait to pick my Love Entwined back up again and do some more broderie perse using these butterflies. Pity to cut up such a beautiful fabric, but that's what quilters do.
Ik kan niet wachten om weer aan mijn Love Entwined te werken en broderie perse vlinders toe te voegen. Het is bijna jammer om zo'n mooie stof te knippen, maar dat doen quilters nou eenmaal. 

This summer, als I told you above, the butterflies in our garden tried my patience. But I got some lovely images. I cannot wait for the buddleja plants to flower again and for the butterflies to arrive.
Zoals ik hierboven al vertelde hebben de vlinders in onze tuin afelopen zomer mijn geduld getart. Maar ik heb een paar mooie foto's kunnen maken en ik kan niet wachten tot de vlinderstruikjes weer gaan bloeien en op de komst van de vlinders.

Stonefields & Mountmellick

At the moment I'm alternating Mountmellick and Stonefields.
In Mountmellick there is a lot of repetition in the borders, which can be a bit boring at times. Which is then the moment to switch to Stonefields and make a hexagon flower or one of the blocks that still need doing.
Op het moment wissel ik Mountmellick en Stonefields af. 
In Mountmellick zit veel herhaling in de randen en dat kan een beetje saai worden. Op zo'n moment werk in een tijdje aan Stonefields en maak een hexagonbloemetje of een van de blokjes die nog gemaakt moeten worden.

Two days ago I finished this sweet block, and added a hexagon flower today.
The block is Stonefields number 39, "Mirror Mirror". 
Twee dagen geleden heb ik dit schattige blokje gemaakt en vandaag heb ik er een hexagonbloem bij gemaakt. Het blokje is Stonefields 39, "Mirror Mirror".

This is hexagon flower #11. I still need 160 of these for Stonefield's border. 
Dit is bloemetje nummer 11. Ik moet er nog 160 maken voor de rand van Stonefields. 



The reason bunnies needed to be included in my Stonefields, is that I have loved rabbits from a very young age.
De reden dat er konijntjes in mijn Stonefields moesten komen, is dat ik altijd al gek ben geweest op konijnen, van jongs af aan. 

I'm probably around 10 years old in this picture, living in Ethiopia in Africa and being surrounded by all sorts of creatures, including lots of rabbits.
I think this picture was taken in Holland, at my aunt's, whilst on holiday back in my native country.
Ik denk dat ik een jaar of 10 was op deze foto, en ik woonde in Ethiopië in Afrika, omringd door allerlei drieren, ook veel konijnen. 
Ik denk dat deze foto genomen is op vakantie in Nederland, bij mijn tante, even terug in mijn geboorteland.  

There are some more "Mirror Mirror" centre pieces ready for applique. I'm doing four of these instead of three, because I'm not too keen on making three of the "Primrose" blocks.
Ik heb al wat meer "Mirror Mirror" middenstukjes klaar liggen om geappliqueerd te worden. Ik maak vier van deze blokjes, want vier "Primroses" maken trekt me niet zo erg.

I've also done some work on Mountmellick, piecing the border for part 6 and adding paper-pieced stars. They are not yet attached. The border is still subject to change and I need six more stars for the first border (times 4 so a total of 36 stars). 
Ik heb ook gewerkt aan Mountmellick en heb de rand in elkaar gezet voor deel 6 en paper-piecing sterretjes gemaakt. Ze zitten nog niet vast. De rand kan nog veranderen en ik moet nog 6 sterren voor deze kant maken (maal 4 dus totaal 36 sterren).

Kruimel and the Fish

When my friend Jane in Wales saw the bit of fabric that makes up the centre of Stonefields block 44: the second Mulhouse Magic block, she immediately thought of our cat Kruimel, who is forever trying to catch the fish in our fish tank.
Toen mijn vriendin Jane in Wales dit stukje stof zag, dat nu het middenstukje van Stonefields 44: Mulhouse Magic vormt, moest ze gelijk aan onze Kruimel denken, die altijd probeert de visjes in ons aquarium te vangen. 

She also sent me a few pieces of her background fabric for her beautiful Caswell quilt, which happened to work very well with the centre piece.
Ze stuurde me ook een paar stukken van de achtergrondstof die ze gebruikt voor haar prachtige Caswell quilt n die bleken prachtig te passen bij het middenstukje. 

And around St Nicholas (5th December) postie brought this very sweet biscuit tin filled with delicious biscuits (not anymore ;o)) also from Jane. What a find!
Rond Sinterklaas bracht de postbode dit schattige blik gevuld met heerlijke koekjes (nu niet meer ;o)) ook van Jane. Wat een vondst!

And last but not least here is our Kruimel ('Crumb' in Dutch) when he was still a little crumb.
En hier is onze Kruimel toen hij nog een Kruimeltje was. 

6 years old now, and still trying to catch te fish through the glass.

Hij is nu zes jaar en probeert nog steeds de visjes te vangen door het glas.
