WOW: Mountmellick & Château Hexagon

Those are my two focus projects at the moment: Château Hexagon and Mountmellick, Di Ford's mystery which is published in Quiltmania.

This is my progress so far. I forgot to include the border in this picture (see previous post). The basket is also made up of the border fabric.

Dat zijn de twee projecten waar ik op het moment aan werk: Château Hexagon en Mountmellick, de mystery van Di Ford, uit Quiltmania. 

Dit is mijn voortgang tot nu toe. Ik vergat de randen op de foto te laten zien (zie eerder bericht). The basket is also made up of the border fabric.

I started the broderie perse for the roses last night. So much fun to do. But also fiddly and very time-consuming. 

Ik ben gisteravond begonnen met de broderie perse rozen. Zo leuk om te doen, maar ook priegelig en het vreet tijd.

"Mummy can I play too?"

Mijn harige helper is er altijd om een pootje te helpen...
"Mammie, mag ik ook meedoen?"

...but thankfully he also has a snooze now and then so I can work a bit faster.

...maar gelukkig doet hij ook af en toe een dutje zodat ik een beetje kan opschieten. 

 

I also completed part 6 of Château Hexagon by Lynette Anderson. I'm not stitching them in any particular order, but still need to complete part 3, part 7 and part 9. The latter arrived last week and it also incudes Lynette's version of the border, which I love. So that's what I will be doing too: a scrappy border. I will show you a picture in a few days' time. I don't want to spoil the surprise for those who haven't received their kit yet.

Deel 6 van Château Hexagon van Lynette Anderson is ook af. Ik maak ze niet op volgorde, maar moet nog de delen 3, 7 en 9 maken. Die laatste kwam van de week aan en Lynette's rand staat er ook in, die ik heel leuk vind. De mijne wordt op dezelfde manier gemaakt, met scrappy rand. Ik laat over een paar dagen een foto van Lynette's hele quilt zien. Ik wil de verrassing niet bederven voor diegenen die hun pakketje nog niet hebben ontvangen.

The helleborus is in full flower at the moment. These two look a bit battered by the rain, but they are so beautiful. I also have toadstools and spring bulbs in the garden. Mother Nature is a bit puzzled as to what she is supposed to be doing.

De helleborus staat te bloeien. Deze twee zien er een beetje verregend uit, maar ze zijn zo mooi. Ik heb ook paddenstoelen en voorjaarsbollen in de tuin. Moeder Natuur is een beetje in de war.

Sharing the Daylight Lamp

Early this morning, whilst I was stitching block 6 of Château Hexagon, we shared the daylight lamp :o)

Vanmorgen vroeg, terwijl ik werkte aan blok 6 van Château Hexagon, deelden wij de daglichtlamp :o)

WOW: my Dad, Mountmellick and Château Hexagon

Thank you so much for your kind messages about my Dad.

He received relatively good news on Friday. The cancer has not spread to other parts of his body, but he will need radiation therapy and anti-hormone therapy. This should hopefully keep the nasty cells in check and give him some more good years.

Heel erg bedankt voor jullie lieve berichtjes over Pap. 

Hij heeft vrijdag vrij goed nieuws gehad. De kanker is niet uitgezaaid naar de rest van zijn lichaam, maar hij moet wel bestraald worden en anti-hormoon medicijnen nemen. Dit zal hopelijk de slechte cellen in toom houden en hem nog veel goede jaren geven. 


When Quiltmania Magazine announced a Mystery by Di Ford, I just had to join in. Since seeing her projects in Veldhoven last May, I am even more in love with her work.

After hearing Dad's relatively good news, I started part 1 of "Mountmellick". This is a picture taken a few days ago, with part of the layout complete.

Toen het tijdschrift Quiltmania aankondigde een mystery van Di Ford te gaan doen, moest ik wel meedoen. Sinds ik vorig jaar mei haar quilts in Veldhoven heb gezien, ben ik nog meer verliefd op haar werk. 

Na het horen van Paps relatief goede nieuws, ben ik begonnen met deel 1 van "Mountmellick".   Deze foto is van een paar dagen geleden. 

Although I do have most of the fabrics chosen by Di in my stash, I chose to do my own thing, with a different border, and broderie perse flowers.
I'm still hunting for the perfect fabric for the other four swags and some bits and pieces for the basket/vase.

Ook al heb ik het grootste gedeelte van de stoffen die Di koos in mijn stash, heb ik er voor gekozen mijn eigen stoffen te kiezen, met een andere rand en broderie perse bloemen. 
Ik zoek nog de perfecte stof voor de andere vier guirlandes, en een paar onderdelen van de mand/vaas. 


And in the mean time I'm also still working on Château Hexagon by Lynette Anderson. This is part 6 in progress (I'm not stitching the parts in any particular order). The last part will be released this week, the top border with a hill and a castle.

En ondertussen werk ik ook nog steeds aan Château Hexagon van Lynette Anderson. Dit is mijn vordering op deel 6 (ik maak ze niet in een bepaalde volgorde). Het laatste deel komt deze week uit, de strook aan de bovenkant met een heuvel en een kasteel. 

Our two British Shorthair cats don't often sleep together, but a few days back, Kruimel (Dutch for 'crumb') and Luna were dozing on the settee near eachother.
Can you tell how tiny our little Luna really is. She is about half Kruimel's size.

Onze twee Britse Korthaar katten slapen niet vaak samen, maar een paar dagen geleden lagen Kruimel en Luna samen te soezen op de bank. 
Zie je hoe klein onze Luna is. Ze is ongeveer half zo groot als Kruimel.

A Bit of Château Hexagon Progress & Life Has Got in the Way

So sorry for ignoring you for so long. Life has got in the way big time. My father was diagnosed with breast cancer (yes, I did say "Dad") just before Christmas, and our life has turned upside down. His operation was on the 13th of January, and it went as well as it could have done.

I'm trying to keep my mind off worrying about him by working on small projects (I cannot get my head around big projects at the moment) and Château Hexagon and the new Soupçon Hexagon Quiltalong appear to be perfect projects to do just that.

The above picture was taken this evening. It probably won't surprise you that not much progress has happened this evening :o)

Het spijt me dat ik jullie zo lang heb laten wachten op nieuws, maar het het leven neemt soms vreemde wendingen. En de wending in ons leven is behoorlijk heftig. Vlak voor Kerst kreeg mijn vader de diagnose borstkanker (Ja, ik zei echt "mijn vader"). Ons leven staat vanaf dat moment op zijn kop. Hij is op 13 Januari geopereerd en het is goed verlopen. 

Ik probeer mijn gedachten te verzetten door aan kleine projecten te werken (ik kan me op dit niet concentreren op grote projecten) en Château Hexagon en de nieuwe Soupçon Hexagon Quiltalong lijken daar perfecte projecten voor te zijn. 

De bovenstaande foto nam ik vanavond. Het zal jullie niet verbazen dat ik vanavond niet erg opschiet :o) 

This was a picture which I took on January 11th of my layout and progress so far. It never made it to my blog for obvious reasons.

So whilst I do my best to keep stitching and to keep my mind off things, can I please ask that you keep your fingers and everything else crossed for my dear Dad, who will receive the pathologist's results and information about his further treatment on Friday.

Bovenstaande foto van de layout en de voortgang van mijn Château Hexagon, nam ik op 11 januari, maar die foto heeft mijn blog toen niet gehaald. 

Als ik nou mijn best doe om mijn gedachten te verzetten door te blijven handwerken, willen jullie dan alsjeblieft duimen voor mijn lieve Pap, die aanstaande vrijdag de uitslag van de patholoog krijgt, en ook zal horen wat voor behandelingen hij verder nog moet ondergaan.

WOW: Phebe Revisited

Finally I made some more progress on Phebe by Di Ford. I started this project just before Love Entwined was released, and it got sadly ignored.

The centre block is coming together slowly. Fabric choices are quite tricky for this project, because it easily gets too bland, especially on my background fabric. Having seen Di's original quilt, I was quite surprised how bright the fabrics are which she used.

Eindelijk heb ik weer wat voortgang met Phebe van Di Ford geboekt. Ik begon eraan vlak voor Love Entwined uitkwam, en werd daardoor genegeerd.

Het middenblok groeit langzaam. Stofkeuze voor dit project is best lastig. Het wordt al snel te flets, vooral op mijn achtergrondstof. Toen ik Di's eigen quilt in het echt zag, was ik verrast over hoe fel haar stoffen zijn.

Still looking for the perfect fabric for the wings for the birdies, and the centre circles for the flowers. I'm very pleased with the teal fabric which I found at Samsara Quilting last week, for the flowers which are blue in the original. But blue doesn't work with the teal flowers in my vase fabric. 

Ik zoek nog het perfecte stofje voor de vleugels van de vogeltjes, en de rondjes voor de bloemen. Ik ben blij met de blauwgroene stof die ik van de week bij Samsara Quilting vond, voor de bloemen die in het origineel blauw zijn. Maar blauw past niet bij de prachtige blauwgroene bloemen in mijn vaas. 

In the mean time I have started making some of the Ohio Stars.
I need eighty of these for Phebe. 

Ondertussen ben ik begonnen met het maken van de Ohio Stars. 
Ik heb er 80 nodig voor Phebe.

It always helps when our furry boy Kruimel lends a helping paw.

Het is altijd fijn als Kruimel een pootje helpt.


What else have I been doing since I last wrote a blog post way too long ago?

Wat heb ik nog meer gedaan sinds mijn vorige berichtje veel te lang geleden? 

I stitched Ruby Rabbit, a model for Samsara Quilting. She moved to Lisse on Friday and I miss her!

Ik heb Rubby Rabbit gemaakt, als model voor Samsara Quilting. Ze is vrijdag verhuisd naar Lisse en ik mis haar.

Stitching her made me realise once and for all that I really do not get along with my Singer sewing machine which I bought about 20 years ago. I don't use my sewing machine much for my patchwork and quilting, because I hand-piece and hand-quilt all my projects.

Toen ik haar maakte, besefte ik dat ik nooit echt heb kunnen opschieten met mijn Singer naaimachine die ik ongeveer 20 jaar geleden kocht. Ik gebruik mijn naaimachine niet veel voor mijn patchwork en quilting, omdat ik alles met de hand doe.

But I want to try my hand at some art quilting, and finally stitch the fused blocks of McKenna Ryan's designs. So I went out and bought myself a very handy and not too complicated new sewing machine, which had all the (simple) features which I require, the main one being that I want to be able to do free-motion quilting on my (future) art quilting projects. This is what I bought:

Maar ik wil beginnem met art quilting, en eindelijk de blokken van de McKenna Ryan quilts doorstikken. Dus heb ik een handige en niet te ingewikkelde nieuwe naaimachine gekocht, die alle (eenvoudige) functies heeft die ik nodig heb. Het belangrijkste is dat ik vrij kan meanderen voor mijn (toekomstige) art quilting projecten. Deze heb ik gekocht:
