Liebster Award

Now that no fewer than two people have awarded me the 'Liebster Blog' award (thank you Ineke and Michele!) it is about time I took action.

Liebster is a German word meaning favourite, dearest or beloved. The Liebster Blog Award is awarded by bloggers to other new bloggers who have fewer than 200 followers, to help spread the word about their blogs and to help them gain wider recognition.

The Liebster award comes with four conditions that each recipient must satisfy when accepting:

1. Choose 5 up-and-coming blogs with less than 200 followers to award the Liebster to.

2. Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them.

3. Post the award on your blog. List the bloggers you are giving the award to with links to their sites. Leave comments on their blog so they know about the award.

4. Share 5 random facts about yourself that people don't know about you.

It is very hard to choose blogs, since my two closest stitching friends have honoured me with this award, and many of my favourite blogs already have more than 200 followers, but here goes:

1. Erna at Scotland and Stitching

2. Mac at Mmumsworld

3. Annemarie of Orts and Ends

4. Pat of Pat-S

5. Glenda of Patchwork Dreams

The five more unknown facts about myself are:

1. I lived in Ethiopia for four years as a child.

2. I was educated in French schools from age 8 to age 15, in Ethiopia and Saudi-Arabia.

3. My favourite place in the whole world is Scotland, more precisely the Inner and Outer Hebrides on the West coast (okay, possibly not such a very unknown fact ;o))

4. After 17 years working as a PA in a French company I became ill and re-trained as a translator. I now work from home as a freelance translator.

5. My biggest passion is creative black-and-white landscape photography, still using traditional materials such as film, chemicals and paper. I have my own darkroom and develop my own films and print my own enlargements on fibre-based paper.

WOW: Back from Scotland

Back again from Scotland, where I spent the past two weeks on the isles of Skye and Harris. I had a wonderful and relaxing time and I'm now feeling rather nostalgic and 'homesick'.

This is my favourite beach on the isle of Harris called Luskentyre. The tide was very low during this visit and I found another little corner which I hadn't previously seen.

This is the cottage where we stayed in Harris.

The beauty of the landscape in Harris inspired me to start painting again. It had been quite a long time since my last painting session. This is the first painting I came up with during my first session.

This second painting is not quite finished yet, because I didn't bring my pastels with me on the holiday. I need the pastels to work on the waves.

This blog is linked to Esther Aliu's Wips on Wednesdays (WOW). Have a look, there are lots of lovely blogs there.

Thanks to Ineke for awarding me the Liebster award. I will be back soon with all the things that need doing.

Forget Me Not

This afternoon I chose my fabrics for Forget Me Not by Esther Aliu, the new BOM which started on leap year day.

It was quite difficult to choose fabrics, because part 1 consisted of choosing our background, border and sashing fabrics, and cutting them to the right sizes. No actual applique pattern was revealed. This will happen on March 15th, next Thursday.

Other fabrics from my stash will be added in pink, burgundy, blue and greens, for the flowers and leaves which Esther has designed.

Thank you for your kind comments! Bedankt voor jullie aardige berichtjes!

QuiltAid Progress

Since my last blog post, I made a bit of progress on the QuiltAid2011 project.

This is "A Flower for Thee" by Natalie Bird of The Birdhouse. It still needs one hexagon flower attaching.

Dit is "A Flower for Thee" van Natalie bird van The Birdhouse. Er moet nog één hexagonbloem worden geappliqueerd.

Lynette Anderson's contribution, "Pixie Quilt Shoppie" is also almost done. I only need to 'hang' the mini-quilt on the flagpole. I will probably leave out the pixies, but might change my mind later when I have all the blocks together.

This is "Bunny Wonderings" by Catherine Baynes. A very cute block.

Dit is "Bunny Wonderings" van Catherine Baynes. Een erg lief blok.

And now I am working on Little Green Frog by Liz Stanway, a combination of fusible applique with blanket stitches and needleturn applique. And lots and lots of stitchery.

No blog post would be complete without a picture of one of our sweeties. Here is Kruimel being his very cute self.

Hier is Kruimel, lief zoals altijd.

Thanks for all your lovely comments.

Bedankt voor jullie leuke berichtjes.

The Adventures of Harrington and Hannah Part 2

The second block of The Adventures of Harrington and Hannah by The Raspberry Rabbits was published on Wednesday. It is so cute that I just couldn't resist working on it straightaway.

Each block has the two bunnies Harrington and Hannah in the same pose.

If you like this BOM, you can join in for free at The Raspberry Rabbits.

I'm also working on Lynette Anderson's contribution to QuiltAid2011. I love her design. It it is so much fun to work on.

And in the mean time I'm trying to choose my background fabrics for the new Mystery BOM by Esther Aliu which is starting on February 29th. Choosing is quite difficult, because being a mystery, we do not know what she has in stall for us. I spent quite a lot of time at Samsara Quilting yesterday and made my choices! I cannot show them yet, since we do not know any measurements, except that the total quilt will measure 60 inches.

Thank you for your lovely and inspiring comments!

Bedankt voor jullie leuke en inspirerende berichtjes!

QuiltAid2011, In Full Bloom, and Luna

First of all, major congratulations go out to my parents, who are celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary today.

On Thursday postie brought my finishing kit for the QuiltAid2011 project as well as the long-awaited Presencia threads. Pretty, aren't they?

Of course I had to try them out on the block I had already prepared a while back. This is the block which Natalie Bird of The Birdhouse designed for this charity project.

I also completed the fifth stitchery for In Full Bloom by Lynette Anderson, as well as the patchwork blocks for the second row of this project. I now have the two rows attached and can start the first block of the third row.

It has been a while since I showed you a picture of our little furry girl Luna. She is still very partial to the toy she received when she was very brave at the vet's in November for her check-up and boosters.

Thank you for all your kind and inspiring comments.

Bedankt voor jullie aardige en inspirerende berichtjes.

Today's Quiltshow

Today I visited the quiltshow at Vijfhuizen, very conveniently held about 10 minutes from my home. Which was especially good, because it was minus 7C this morning when I left home and we have a covering of snow.

These are my favourite quilts of today:

"Pompoentje" by Henk van Kooten

"Chondrus Crispus" by Wietske Kluck

I also found some more Japanese woven fabrics for the Yoko Saito Mystery BOM.
